I am a novice computer user, really enjoy Nascar, ICR2, Grand Prix2, but would like to upgrade to windows95.
I would like some feedback on the best approach to take to upgrade. Do these games run well or at all under
Win95? Most of the installation instructions state that the game hasn't been tested or you may have problems.
I was considering duel operating systems to give myself the option of WIN95 or DOS. Has anyone tried this ? Is
it worth the effort and do you have to be a computer GURU to set it up. My computer is a pentium 75, 32mb ram.

        Any help would be appreciated,

There are a number of options to run NASCAR, etc. from Win95.  You can
set up an icon to boot to dos with a configuration designed for the
specific game; you can configure 95 to re-boot to dos with the general
dos config of your choice; you can choose to leave your old dos on the
PC during the 95 setup and 're-boot to old version of dos'; and you can
always create a dos boot disk to bypass 95 altogether.

The only problem you'll face is configuration issues - loading the
proper dos drivers for sound, video, etc.  I run Nascar from 95 using a
dos-session icon, that re-boots with a dos config.  It works fine for
me.  I can even setup an icon to run Nascar directly from windows, in an
emulated dos session, but my experience is that this requires too much
disk access to the 95 swap files.

Hope it helps...

I have the multiple boot options on my P100 (16mb) system.  When I want to
play nascar I boot to the DOS 6.0 and with the drivers I need + CD/SOUND
access I have 644K+ available for DOS programs when I run the MEM command
at the dos prompt.  Using QEMM to put things high frees up a load of
conventional.  NASCAR really runs very nice as well as NAS2DEMO.  Using
Diamond Stealth 64 w/2mb VRAM.

You can always run DOS mode from within Windows 95, so installing Windows
95 really can't hurt you.  You can also setup multiple configurations in
your config.sys file that same way as under MS-DOS 6.x.   You can make one
DOS for NASCAR Racing, for example, and then run command.com in your
autoexec file for this configuration.

Hi Anthony,

I have been doing it since Windows95 came out.  I run multiple configs.  I
have no problems at all.  You can also setup Windows95 so that it doesn't
boot up to the GUI interface (which I have done) and just type "win" to
start windows95 just like old windows...

and autoexec.bat, and instructions on how to stop the GUI from starting

Anthony, I have been running on a true dual boot system for quite a
few months now.  It required the outlay of a few dollars for a program
called System Commander, but was well worth it.  System Commander will
present you with a menu of operating systems upon boot-up, with
absolutely NO memory resident TSRs.  You can install some ungodly
number of operating systems (something like 32 or 64) restricted only
by disk space and a few minor quirks involved with each OS (example:
all FAT based operating systems must have a boot partition on hard
disk #0, this can cause a problem if all of your space is partitioned
already)  At the moment, I boot to the System Commander menu and
choose either DOS 6.22 or Windows 95.  When the money presents itself
to me, I'll be adding some more disk space in order to install NT 4.0.

Sorry I can't offer you the url to System Commander's home page, but
I'm sure you can find it using Yahoo or one of the other search
engines.  Hope this helped.
