ftp'ing to 144.92.30.243. There is plenty more. The F1GP FAQ is still in
the making.
I'm a Mac user, too, but when it comes to racing simulation I do boot up
one of the 'ole Intel boxes we have at work. That's about the only thing
they do better.
Nothing decent. The last thing I saw was called Vette and it really
sucked.
It doesn't. SoftWindows is a 286 emulator. Gotta wait for that future
commercial product fro Insignia that will allow 386 and 486 instruction
emoulation, with some of them rewritten in native mode for the PPC. Still
won't run too well. ICR really needs a rackin' 486 to shine.
The only Mac that runs this stuff is the PC-compatible Mac, which
otherwise is a pretty lame Mac. It is only a 486SX and doesn't have any
game ports, nor a slot for a Soundblaster. Basically a useless game box
(but a great productivity tool...)
I saw a native flight simulator last week in a demo. About 486 style
performace, but in 640x480. The power is there, but the obvious problems
are: market share (people who write software want to sell it), and the
uncertainty in the industry if the PowerMac will really deliver. It's
also a toatlly different environment for most of the game programmers,
and it'll take a while before the star programmers rewrite their engines
for a PowerPC. It'll happen, but not in the next 12 months. I'll be
spending a lot of hours racing on Dells and Gateways...
Nobody should create a product now that is not "native" on the PowerMac.
A company that creates a simulator for a 68000 series chip today is bound
to fail...
Anyway, get yourself access to a fast PC if you want cool racing. If you
have to buy it, it becomes an expensive toy and I'd suggest you spend
your money on something more usefull than a PC ;-)
