I need a wheel!!

by Russell D. Laughlin Jr., MCS » Wed, 07 Mar 2001 13:21:30

My Thrustmaster Force GT is on it's last legs and my Nascar Pro is a
gameport only model (so 1998).  I am looking at the Nascar digital, the
Logitech Wingman, and the Saitek wheels.  Any recommendations?  I don't want
to go the FF route again, as I don't feel it helps my driving.  Also, I'm
trying to not have to spend $100 bucks again on a wheel.  (TM Formula T2 in
1997- $100, Nascar Pro in 1998.5- $100, Force GT in Jan 2000, $100)  I'd
like to stay in the 50-60 dollar range if possible.  TM has the Nascar
Digital right now for 34.95 plus 7 dollars to ship.  What's the word on
those?

TIA,
Russ

Great price for that wheel.  Just be sure to use the windows default driver
and you should be fine.

I like my NASCAR pro digital. Great wheel for low dollars. Didn't like the fact
that I had to uninstall reg pro wheel before it would work but...also paddles
behind the wheel tend to get in my way. If money is the concern, go for the
Pro..IMHO

I just bought the Nascar Pro Digital 2 last night for $59 from COMPUSA.  I
can honestly say that I think it's an excellent wheel.  The 2 comes with gas
and brake peddles.. not sure about the 1.  An excellent feature of this
wheel is the clamping mechanism which locks the wheel very strong to the
table preventing any movement while racing.

Question about a previous comment..  why was it recommended to make sure to
use the default window's driver?  I installed the Thrustmaster drivers per
the instructions..  is there a known problem with this?

Thanks and take care,

Tony

Do you have a SAMS CLUB membership or know anyone who does?

Microsoft Precision Pro is $19.95 right now.

How does this wheel and peddles (and other models) hook up?  I
presently have CH stick, throttle, and rudder pedals hooked up to a
gamecard.

I have a similiar setup to yours.  I run a TM F-22 Pro flightstick and
throttle hooked up to my gamecard.  The Nascar Pro Digital 2 that I bought
is USB so it works great with my flight gear.  Only thing I notice is that
if I leave my USB wheel plugged in, my flight sims (notably F-18) will try
and use the wheel.. so I have to unplug it first which is no big deal since
it's USB.  The nice thing, however, is that I can leave my flight gear
hooked up all the time because when I launch a racing sim, it detects and
uses my wheel.

Hope that helps..

Tony

That is great news Tony!!!  Hey - don't think I have seen you around
on the pc-games.flight-sim NG.  I am mostly a lurker there any way.

Thanks for the help.  I have always wanted to get a wheel.

Paul,

You're very welcome..  good luck.  I do frequent the flight sim newgroup
daily, but like you rarely post there unless I'm stuck with something.. Good
info to be found there though, as well as here.. similiar class of folks it
would seem :).

Take care,

Tony

I need a wheel!!

Hey, thanks to whoever suggested Sam's.  I found a MS Sidewinder Force
Feedback for 37 bucks, and it also has a 30 dollar rebate.  It's gameport,
but for 7 bucks, I'll live with it.

Thanks Again,
Russ
