These stupid gosh darn piece of garbage NVIDIA drivers!  I upgraded from the
6.31 drivers to the Detonator 3 6.50's just a couple of days ago because, in
one reviewers words, "you will see up to 50% faster graphics!"  Although it
didn't help me at all in N4, FPS staying exactly the same, I went to GPL for
the first time in a couple of weeks and I can't get anything over 18 FPS!!!
DADBLASTIT!
I make the assumption that it's the new drivers so I go get the 6.31's that I
had before, uninstall the 6.50's, install the 6.31's and now I am really
ticked!  I mean I am just going to go ahead and have a CONIPTION FIT!
No change in GPL and now I have lost 10 FPS on N4!  CRIMINY!!
HEEEEEEEEEELP!!!!!

SYSTEM
Dell P-3 600
256 ram
sblive
Geforce 256
Voodoo 2

Before all of this, in N4 I was getting 39-42 FPS in D3D mode (open gl was
slower for me) - Dega - back of the pack with details turned down some (I'm now
getting 32 FPS).  On GPL I was getting a rock steady 36 FPS (now 18 FPS)

Other than the drivers, I haven't changed anything.  I have made sure the
settings in display are correct and have made sure I have everything correct in
GPL.   Lettering in GPL looks slightly fuzzy.

Help me please!  I beg of you all!  You don't want to see a grown man crack...

Not sure where you read that the 6.50's would give you a 50% performance
boost, but that certainly is not the case, at least not over any of the
prior Det3 drivers.
As far as your framerates going down in N4 by going back to the 6.31's,
check and make sure anti-aliasing is off and vertical synch is off.

Uninstall the drivers -exactly- as being explained in this guide:
http://www.3dgpu.com/tweaking/index.cfm
(delete them from the registry, manually delete some inf files,
yadayada) and then reinstall the 6.31 drivers.

I have re-installed the drivers and that took care of GPL, but I have still
suffered the frame hit on N4.  Oh well, I will just keep hacking away.  Thanks

This is not meant to offend, but if you believe installing new drivers is
going to get you a 50% faster graphics-- I'm assuming this means higher
fps-- then you're crazier than I thought a person could be.  Sure, if you
get 2 fps installing might get you 3.  But if you get 30 I doubt you'll see
45 because of the installation.  Frame rates are so dependent on such subtle
things that for anyone to say you'll get this or that increase-- he's just
talking like an adman.

Still, try installing the drivers again or looking at how your system is
running to try to increase your fps.

You didn't offend.  But, no, I didn't expect to see 50% faster graphics.  Since
I only believe about half of what any reviewer says, and my mother taught me to
believe half of that, yeah, I figured to pick up 4-5 fps a sec.  That would
have been worth it.  As for re-installing, forget it.  I just got everything
back where is was.

...but 6.31 and 6.50 are *both* Detonator 3 drivers, so indeed are 6.18,
which were the first official D3 drivers.

Detonator 3 means 6.xx onwards.  nVidia are comparing 6.18 with the last
5.xx drivers in this statement.

Anyway, no one should believe statistic from video card manufacturers,
they're always 'best case' statistics.

  the key words are:  'by up to'  that could mean anything from zero
improvement to 50%.  So anything that falls within that range will be a
correct statement.
