I clean my POTs with paint thinner. I'm still using the original Pots that
I got with my Thrustmaster T2 over a year ago, and every week or two, I
squirt some paint thinner in them, and they're good as new. And I do use my
T2 more than I care to mention...

Thrustmaster T2 Potentiometers

I've been going through potentiometers at a rate of one every 2
months.  It's not a problem as Thrustmaster will send me a new one
when one goes (sometimes even a spare), but I was wondering if anyone
knows of a company that supplies potentiometers for the Thrustmaster
T2?  I've called Bourns, C & K, and a couple of other place with no
luck.  I've asked Thrustmaster if they could give me the name of the
company that they get theirs from, but they wouldn't release that
information.  I also asked if I could buy a "batch" of 30 from them
and thay wouldn't do that either.  Anyone know where I can get other
pots?

Thanks!

All you have to do is squirt some WD40 and blow out
the the eccess liquid out .
Have fun.

Squirting WD40 into your pots should be discouraged.  The thin film that
remains is VERY willing to attract, and hold onto, any dust, resulting in a
build-up on the resistance ring and wipers.

What you should use is one of the proprietory brand of electrical PC board
cleaners, available in a spray can.  This has the benefit of leaving no
residue.  Alternatively, disassemble the pot (carefully!) and use an
isopropyl-*** wipe to lightly clean the resistance ring and wipers.

Don't use WD40...it's a fine product but it is for lubricating, not
cleaning :-)

I was told the same thing and was recommended TV Tuner Cleaner which
you can buy in radio schack for about $ 8.00 bucks.... it's a spray
can of solution that mirrors WD40, but it's NOT a lubricant, but a
cleaner!

The problem with cleaning with isopropyl-*** is that it will dry out
the plastic parts and harden them.  Thus shorting their life span.

The Radio Shack Tuner Cleaner IS a cleaner & lubricant:

"Cleans and lubricates tuners and controls... reduces wear - safe on
plastic."

[And no I don't work for Radio Shack nor do I own any interests in Tandy
Corp.]

A temporary fix for pots that bounce around is to remove them and
exercise them with your fingers.  The first time I did this I was
surprised to find that it works.  The fix is good for about 4-5 hours of
driving.  I have recently gotten some contact renew spray and I haven't
noticed a problem yet.  It's only been a couple of days and I've not
driven much during that time.  My guess is that I may have to treat my
pots on a regular basis, but it sure beats smacking the wall for no good
reason.

Michael....
Sorry....I wasn't specific enough.  Just use the damp wipe on the carbon
resstance ring and on the copper brushes. I didn't mean to imply that the
whole pot should be dipped in iso :-)
