SCGT Surprise

Hi guys

In early 1999 i was really into PC racing having been jealous of my brothers
console racing game for a year.

I ventured to my local store to see what might give me the e***ment the
arcade console games were giving us night after night.

I narrowed my choice down to these three games/sims.

a-Grand Prix Legends

b-Sportscar GT

c-Toca 2 Touring.

Now I didnt really know what to look for as far as longevity and game
satisfaction was concerned so my final choice came down to how
good/realistic the screenshots looked on the back of the boxes.(lol)

Thus I chose Toca 2.

Did the usual offline hotlapping and AI races until I became curious about
this 'network' option and what it did.
Dug deeper and ended up on Codemasters Toca 2 Chatroom, looking for a race
and chatting about the game. One patch install later i was in my first online
race......and hooked..!!!

I was brilliant at Toca 2..i beat the AI offline in expert mode and i was
confident in my own ability. But wait.......how come i was being thrashed
online by these racers from all round the world....?
I was not brilliant...i was slow...hehe

One ***ed year later i had risen to be as good as most, only a handful can
beat me now and i am a happy man.

But the game has gone stale, nobody seems to be able to add any more tracks
or cars like other games i had heard about so sadly all the great drivers
leave the scene....and its a sad time for all.

THEN.....I hear of GPL....or more accurately Vroc.....i buy  GPL cheap...add
all the extras which make it great and i love it,try to get up to pace but
this is no ordinary sim,you cant just give a track 30 or 40 hours and be Top
10 in the world....so i realise maybe i missed the boat and use GPL for fun
recreation at night with similar standard drivers....nice close racing...and
satisfying.

NOW.....I bought a Logitech Wingman wheel in July 2000..had it 3 days,hated
it and returned it for a refund.SCGT came with it and i forgot(honest) to
put the CD back in the box.
So ,one bored day in December 2000 i installed it,was in GTQ and thought it
was OK,my time with it was about one week and i never looked at it again.

Until last week....!!!

I saw a post on here with a few URL's...i explored and did a bit of
downloading and trial and error here and there.

Well..WOW....

I now have it set up permanently as a GT1 racing sim, sort of a poor mans(but
not so poor) WSC.I have 900hp cars only,McClaren F1,Panoz,Bugatti
EB110,Ferrari F50,Mercedes CLKGT and a Porsche GT1,using the cheat i get
enough money to set them up to the ultimate,i set the graphics to max,AI
level to max, race length to 30 minutes and we race.I race the McClaren F1
GTR with the McClaren dashboard,to add to the realism(great driving from the
middle,whilst behind a windscreen)
I have never had so much fun in my sim life.I have to recommend you try this
out with these settings, and if WSC is as much fun as this, i will be
happy, but this sure makes a cheap easy alternative to last until the real
mcCoy arrives.
....and Hockenheim is a magical track with these beasts...I can lap in the
low 1.30's lap after lap...and i come 3rd.....the Bugatti and the F50 lap at
1.28/1.29...and its a real buzz trying to hang on to them.
Given a few more hours at it i consider i will be up there.

I wrote this just wanting more to experience this as it is forgotten by some
in its basic form and many may never have even tried this scenario for
racing.

Try it.....its great.

  Hey Morgan...
For a little more driving fun, try getting the Advanced Options Editor.
It does several things...biggest is increases the the driving feel slightly
and
allows you to TURN OFF that super sticky grass that SCGT has.
re-use it evertime you add new cars or tracks...I did about the same thing
as you, but with LeMans Cars. Audi's, BMW, Lola, Caddilace, Chrysler
prototypes and Viper & Vette & Porche GTS cars.

ps...  I think WSC will feel more like GPL than SCGT..fyi...
