n/3 (2000) and a new computer

by Gearhead » Mon, 05 Oct 1998 04:00:00

Back in 1994, I thought I would never have a computer. I saw the game Nascar
racing, bought it then bought a computer( told my wife I could use it for
business).
Fast forward to nov 1996, fornd N/2. It wouldn't work for diddly on the old
486. Told my wife we needed a faster computer for the business, and she could
have the 486 for her personal use. Bought a 200 mgz. pentium, 32 meg ram, and
have added some other things including a Thriller 8 mg video card. Now I hear
everyone talking about GPL needing a much faster computer, more ram and more.
Knowing that N/3 is based on the GPL model, I am worrying about needing a new
computer. The 486 was $1600, and the P200 was $1800. I am thinking of retiring
and won't be able to afford a new one. Also, I don't know how to "tweak"
computers for more speed. I'm hoping that N/3 will work on my system, or I
guess I'll Have to stay with N/1999 when it comes out.

Its an expensive ***ion but it could be worse. It could be with racing
real cars and thats very expensive. Lucky for me my wife likes racing also.
I need to upgrade to a PII so I need a good excuse also.
P200's now cost less then $500; so you could wait until N4 comes out ,get N3
and an outdated PII 450 for a reduced price. Not sure how long you will have
to wait though.
