Those rumors of GPL going gold are really true.  The 40 file (200mb) full
version of this game is flying around the internet faster than a Formula One
car.  It's already posted to at least a half-dozen binary newsgroups.

Please - no anti-piracy flames.  I'm just stating what I saw.  I'm not
recommending that anybody go download it.

Aw gosh...  please understand the technical achievement all and BUY the
simulation to help the Papyrus Design Group continue to be the #1 in racing
simulations. Just _imagine_ how bad and boring it would be without them ;-(

Here is something I would really like for GPL...

Put all the information in a REALLY tick manual.  What I mean is that if you
do not include any instructions on setup tweaking and so  (ex: how you name
your setup extensions in your folders (you will see with the full game), it
will probably cut off on the pirating.

I think this is the case for air simulations. Some of them are very
complicated, and without instructions I would think that it makes the game
unplayable.  Because in pirating we are talking about the mass gamers, not
the simracers who just get an hand on it to tweak setups, and will all sure
buy the full product at the release day.

<g> If I had no manual or help file to help me understand the complexity of
the GPL setup menu (well if "I" was a casual pirate gamer), it would go fast
in the recycle bin.

Well, yeah.. some people would scan it into an *.pdf file  :'-(

But the manual is in print since around 2weeks from official source, so
let's hope. But heh I _REALLY_ want to read  Mr. Kaemmer introduction to
Grand Prix Legends.

Jeeez, the amount it would cost to d/l it from the net (200Mb?) it's
cheaper to BUY IT anyway!!!

Come on people, support for these guys that give us these amazing
sims is very important. Financial as well as verbal!!!!

Get out there and BUY IT......

From what I heard the version available warez may be older build
that lacks certain features only available in the released version.

With all the hoopla and recent work on the multiplayer and final
licensing issues, it may simply be a glorified demo.  That's a
BIG download (200Mb?!) to find out the graphics aren't done, or
the cars drive funny, yada-yada-yada.

Cheers!

Marc

> Put all the information in a REALLY tick manual.

Former Car & Driver editor and author of the book "Winning" (included
in the latest re-issue of ICR2/CART Racing) has written a companion
book for GPL that'll be included in da' box.  =)

Hmmm...and how did you discover this specific?  ;)

Doubtful...GPL is pretty easy to figure out (the basics), and exploring
the garage would simply take some extra time.  Keep in mind too that
many GPL sites will have tips for playing the sim, so missing the main
manual simply means you wont have any cozy-reading come Sunday evening.

Not needed...Perhaps for a flight sim with a ton of different key-
strokes yes, but not for GPL (see above).  Besides, not many have the
full version of Adobe - of course unless it too has been ripped.

Cheers!

Marc

Yes - you are right.  I couldn't resist and downloaded the 60mb of compressed
files.  It looks to be about 99.5% of the final version.  ALL the cars and all
the tracks are there.  The only thing that made it look NOT-RETAIL was during
the closing credits where you see the words:

PLACEHOLD CREDITS

scroll by followed by all the titles but no staff names.  Also the readme.txt
file was a little sparse.  Here it is - all one line of it:

This is A Grand Prix Legend By Sierra Online v1.0

So apparently there is a polished version which will be out in 2-3 weeks.

Oh well - this will be fun to practice with until the real thing comes to town.

Again - spare the anti-pirate flames.
I'm buying it when it's available...

Interesting, and I'm surprised the uploader took the risk, whoever that may
be.

FWIW, do treat it as a preview version if folks decide to go ahead and
download it - it will be an incomplete product.

I've really appreciated the helpfulness AND honesty I've seen in RAS -- and
appropriate credit being given to the hardworking people who put our favorite
sims together or modify portions of them for all of us to enjoy.

Please do not get cavalier about the warez versions of GPL floating around.  I
find it despicable that this practice exists and seems to be forgiven so easily
by many.  Dammit, it's theft!  I don't give a shit if the warez are 5 megs or
500, complete or incomplete, don't patronize or even tacitly support the little
"shitz" who crack and post ANY program.  There's a special corner in hell
reserved for them.

I'm eager, too, but I'll wait until it's legal to own a copy.  And I won't play
an illegal copy before that.  It's still theft.

Regards,

Kurt

It doesn't seem to be the full version.

I'm not a holier-than-thou anti-piracy zealot, and often games suck so
badly that looking at a warez version is often the only way to avoid
spending good money on a real turkey. However if you're prepared to
download 200Mb then you already know that GPL is light years from
being a turkey, so by all means have a look - then go and buy the full
thing. There's a lot of work from Papyrus and a lot of suggestions
from us lot gone in here, and it would be a shame to see that go
unrewarded and end up with nothing but Daytona USA clones to play :-(

Cheers!

Woah, easy boy. In that case there's an even hotter corner reserved
for people who release utter tosh like SEGA Touring Car. Sometimes
it's good to take a look, but as the .NFO says - if you like it, buy
it.

Cheers!

Well said! GPL raises the auto simulation bar, all other sims now have this

Support Papy, and buy this game!!!

Settle down, Kurt. You aren't lecturing a bunch of petty thieves, you
know.....and if you were they'd tell you to get stuffed anyway.

Anybody here who is a true believer will buy the product, irrespective
of the availability of a "cracked" version, finished or otherwise.
