Why is TOCA so lame??

I've just been out and bought TOCA. What a letdown. Had a quick go on
the Playstation version - excellent fun, just a bit hard to control
because it's a digital controller.

So I thought I'll go get the PC version. Bad move. First problem - it
says on the box that it supports almost every "3d card" on the planet.
Well I might, but it makes *** all difference unless you have a
PII-300 to back it up. I threw TOCA at my RageII and it coughed - I've
seen better frame rates on Revs (BBC Micro). If I had a P90 then I
wouldn't be surprised - but an 6x86 200? So I decided to go splash out
on an 3dfx...

OK, I concede it makes some difference, but I would have expected more
from one of the best 3d cards on the market. For example, everytime I
approach the pit entrance at Donington it goes into Jerkovision, as soon
as I go past it's fine. What's going on?

The other huge problem is Codemasters have programmed in 2 joystick
modes, Playstationalike Digital, and Realistic Wheel Analog. What about
all the analog joystick owners out there? In digital mode I can't get
round the corners properly, and in analog mode I can't get the blasted
car to go in a straight line. Is it too much to ask to program the
blasted software properly?

I've e-mailed Codemasters, and in 5 days absolutely nothing. I think
it's time to exercise the Electronics Boutique 10 day exchange policy
and wait for TOCA2.

I have a P133 with a 3Dfx card. I don't have the full version, but the
TOCA demo runs very smooth in medium resolution with full detail on
my computer. No problems at all.

You have a 6x86? That could be the problem. I know of some people
who have 6x86s, and although their computers should be able to run
TOCA and F1RS at a very nice speed, they don't, and people who
have slower computers (but Pentiums) that run the games just fine.

Just tried TOCA on my fathers 6X86 P166 and its frame rate makes it
unplayable, I appears you may need a Intel equipped machine to get
the best from this game.
My Intel Classic P200 (3DFX)  runs lovely and smooth with full res and
detail
its an A1 game,  my only gripe is the lack of replays .

It's your Cyrix chip ---  try it on a Intel p150 or above ... let us
know that you think.

Why is TOCA so lame??

Runs absolutely smoothly with my PentiumPro oc'd 233 MHz and Orchid
Righteous 3D. Every detail set to the highest, with every view. Must
be one of your settings (did you set to hardware acceleration?). If I
bypass the 3dfx-card the frame rate decreases to unplayability...
