I got a Cyrix/IBM 6x86-P166+.
Has anyone noticed that when they install the Windows95 version of ICR2,
that during hardware testing, one of the messages that comes back is:
"Detected CyrixX86-133 (tested)"
"Your processor is not good enough to run ICR2 under Win95,
You need a Pentium 60"
This gave me a good laugh. As you can notice they said "CyrixX86" rather
than "Cyrix 6X86", so they could be mixed up with the Cyrix 5x86 rather
than the 6x86. But even so, I believe the Cyrix 5x86 was at least the
equivalent of a Pentium 75 in performance, so even that was good enough,
if a Pentium 60 is all that's necessary.
One would almost be tempted to suggest that Papyrus/Sierra was in
cahoots with Intel to put that message in there. But I'm not an Intel
basher, so I'll let someone else suggest that. :-)
Anyways, I've also got some kind of patch for the Win95 version. Does
that fix this problem? Also I'm having trouble getting the joystick
working in the Win95 version. I see a joystick driver in my soundcards,
and game controllers device list, but I have no idea if that is working
or not.
Now, on a completely different note, I was completely amazed to find out
that that Microprose GP2 (the DOS version) works in a full screen DOS
Window of Win95, without requiring a drop-down to single-DOS mode. Just
as a rule, I tend to always try to drop down to single-DOS mode when
playing games, but I guess that's just a hangover from the Win 3.1 days.

I saved the Bulls car in N2 and made a new driver named M_Jordon, but
can NOT laod the file I down loaded. Yes I did rename the pcx file
correctly.

Well, anyone running ICR2 under Win95 in and of itself gave me a good
laugh...
Notwithstanding that, it appears to be quite common for programs and
BIOS's to identify non-Intel chips as something other than what they
are capable of. As with GP2's estimated frame rate, the real-world
label would be "Disregard and see what ya get..."
