Brickyard 400 patch/Editing .TXT files

by Kano » Mon, 06 May 1996 04:00:00

I have a question about editing the .TXT files in the NASCAR tracks
directories. What number do I change to possibly make the cars lineup
three wide?  I would like to make the race at Indy start like the Indy
500.
Also, if anyone out there knows how to edit the .DAT files for CARS files
or TRACKS files, let me know.  I would like to expand the carset size
(someone did this for Indycar, why not NASCAR?), and to change the tracks
some (put up Winston Cup Series signs)
Thanks

We are doing for Nacsar. I'm assuming Gerhard hasn't got around to it
yet.

Well for a start, editing DAT files is a nightmare. Why do you think
the Daytona patch is taking so long?

As for putting up signs, thats not too difficult, although it alters
the tracks checksums and means that most Internet racing series
validation software won't work with them.

That would be  http://www.synapse.net/~crankstr/
There is a "k" in crankstr.

I visited this page.
There are instructions here for editing your tracks2.txt file.
That is TXT file.
The original post is asking about the DAT file.
This is the model file for the track, not just a text file with
parameters that you can edit with any text editor.
Editing the DAT file would indeed be very hard without the
tools intended for this purpose.

I've sent this note twice to your E-mail address and it's been returned
both times, so here it is...

Actually, this is the first time I've mentioned this program to anybody,
so it's not available anywhere else yet.  However, Michael Carver asked me
if he could put it on his web site at http://www.teleport.com/~mcarver.
He said he hadn't tried it yet, but he liked the idea.  So, depending if
he likes it after he tries it, it may show up there.

Is the problem that you couldn't decode it?  I used WINCODE.  It's
freeware you can get on line.  I got mine from AOL somewhere.

If you got it decoded, there should be a few text files that provide
instructions.  If you don't copy DRIVERS2.TXT to DRIVERS3.TXT, it won't
run.

Other than that, I'm really not much of a techy person, but I'll be glad
to help as far as I can.

Stay tuned...

For those of you who may have missed this nifty little utility I have
made it available via my AutoSim web page at:

Hi Jed,

How is it going with the Daytona patch?
Have you been able to move the Start/Finish line for Daytona yet?
Do you plan to have the Daytona skyline in the background or is that a problem to import new graphics in
the tracks.dat file? (Like Winston Cup Series signs)!

Who cares if you alter the checksum for some validation software from IVGA if you can get a new track or a much
better track for instance start to modify Talladega so it becames the true Talladega track!
Whishfull thinking, I suppose!

/Rolf
