I felt the need for someone to appraise my work so I posted a few pics
over at alt.binaries.simulators.autos.  I have been tweaking the look
of the Lotus since I got the game last year and when GPLEA came out
with their Lotus and GPL Spares Factory did the same with their dash
I added what I had to their excellent products.  My tweaks are just
small details and colors added to the exterior and I just moved things
around on the dash so they are not blocked by the wheel (not the most
authentic, I know).  I do think the Lotus color is more true to the
'67 model, but then maybe its just my monitor.

let me know what you think,
Randy

I would appreciate it if you ask before editing my dashes and claiming them
as your own.....

Very nice, Randy. I agree, I like the color better. Anywhere it can be
downloaded?

I like your color.  It does appear more authentic.
Do you have any files that we can download so we can use that color too?
What tools do you use to edit the car BTW??
I've been looking for a tool that will let me put my name on the car and I'm
having trouble making it look good.  I can't seem to get the "blurred"
effect of the name.  When I do it, the name is too clean and clinical.
Cheers,
...Colin

Glad you like it.  I will gladly post the needed files at
alt.binaries.simlulators.autos if I can get permission from GPLEA,
since the skins fit over their 3do's (with the lotus.3do slightly
modified) for their great new Lotus 49. I have decided that I like
their dash better than my version so I do not plan to post my version
(if anyone would want it I would have to get permission from Ken
Drouillard and Peter O'Connor at GPL Spares Factory since it is their
excellent dash, I just moved some gages moved around).  Actually the
more I look at theirs the more I like their two dashes over mine
anyway.

As far as what I use to edit, I use Paint Shop Pro v5.01.  If you use
24 bit color you can set the text tool for anti-aliasing and that
gives the "blurred" effect you see.

Looks great Randy. I've got a scale model of a Lotus 49 sitting next
to me, and the color from your version looks perfect. Also thanks for
explaining the 'blur effect' of the text, I couldn't figure this out
either.

Still I miss some details on the GPLEA lotus. My scale model has some
more advertising on it. A Shell and a Firestone logo on the nose, and
a 'STP' logo in the middle of the car, under the Team Lotus logo.
Any reason why this was left out?

And please make your files downloadable from a website, the a.b.s.a
newsgroup often gives problems with files.

Well shoot, I used my Exoto model and photos I found on the net and
haven't seen the logos you speak of.  Unfortunately when using the
dark green color you also lose the ability to use much shading and the
fine detail of GPLEA's Lotus, not to mention my lack of expertise.

As far as making the files available on a website, if someone has some
room I would gladly send them there.

Andre, the advertiser's logos didn't appear on the car until later in the
season.  In fact, when the car debuted at Zandvoort it was totally bare of
any "advertising"....the only wording was team Lotus on the flanks, "Lotus
Ford" on the nose and the Lotus badge.  Not even the driver's name appeared
on the car.

That book was WAY to expensive for me, saw it for about $100 here in
Holland...

Andre, I just ordered it from Barnes and Noble online for less than
US$40.00. I'm no sure if they ship internationally, but it might be worth a
look.
