TPTCC Patch, Still only 4 gears???

by Bria » Wed, 10 Sep 1997 04:00:00

It seems pretty lame driving these touring cars with the 4 speed from
the stock cars..  The accellerations really sucks..  Is there any way
to get more gears??  Like the 6-speeds that they are supposed to
have??  Otherwise this is a great patch, it just would be alot more
fun with a 6-speed ;>

TPTCC Patch, Still only 4 gears???

by Dave Henr » Thu, 11 Sep 1997 04:00:00

After getting blown off the main straight at Portland a time or two
I really got working on good gearing for that track.  I think the key
to good accel is a very precisely selected 2nd gear and a very tall
top gear.  Six speeds would be very nice tho...however, since N2 is
the base for that patch, I'd be suprised if they can tweek the gearbox
anymore than that.
And remember, these Touring cars "only" put out 300ponies compared
to the 700-900hp the Winston Cup V-8's produce.  Your accel will
always blow compared to those.
I loved the new photo of Peter Cunningham's Honda in the latest
version.  1.3.  Any chance of getting a screen with the #8 Dodge
Stratus inluded in the next version??

Well to answer both your questions - no we won't have 6 gears in the
sim.

The first point about the TPTCC patch is that we have decided not to
alter the EXE at all in the patch due to the problems of patching it
and the fact there are several versions with the different patched -
plus I suspect it would***Papyrus off.

However, about the screens - yes, in version 2 we intend to change
most of the screens to reflect the touring car nature of the game.
That particular picture was included because of problems aligning the
windsheilds with the new car shape.

How much acceleration do you want?  These are 300 hp sedans, not 700+hp
open wheelers.  Yes 6 gears would be interesting, with a higher workload
for the driver every lap, but I can't imagine much more acceleation.  As
long as the patch is N2 based I imagine it will always be 4-speed.

Come on Jed,

For what you are being paid to do this, you could easily....

No wait, you've already exceeded what you are getting paid for.

BTW that is a collective "you"

Ok, thanks for the replies, I'm doing some tweaking with the gears
right now..

If anyone's still read this thead, Is there a way to select a car
other than the Sabb 900 to drive??  When I go to the driver
information page I still get the chevy, ford, and pontiac emblems, but
they all show the Sabb 900 as the car.

Hmmm....Is it just me, or has anyone else noticed that the 300hp (four
speed) TBTCC cars appear to have the same amount of torque as their 700hp
N2 cousins.
I'm just making light of this for those that are complaining about the
"lack" of acceleration that these cars appear to have.

By the way, many thanks to the people responsible for the patch. Your
efforts are appreciated.

Yes, I certainly have noticed no diference between the way the touring
cars accelerate and handle when compared the the WC stock cars.

Still the patch is fun, looks cool, and heck it's FREE!

The braking distance is shorter with these touring car since they are
lighter

O
I had noticed that at the finishing screens:  The one where the
disgusted mechanic walks away...(yeah I see that a lot!)
the windshield seems popped out and sitting about a half a foot above
where it should be....
