RBR: the next recommended steps?

Hi folks, I won my first rookie level Rally championship tonight (safe
damage level) which unlocked the Citroen, but I like the Peugeot 206
much more (so many good looking girls were driving them in my youth,
must have been some kind of conditioning for me ;-). So was wondering
what the next recommended step for a novice rally driver like my
should be (my PB at harwood I is a 3m56 in the p206). Should I crank
up the AI speed for the next rally championship or should I try a
"reduced" damage mode rally on rookie level? I crashed numerous times
during the first CS, and I fear I wouldn't be able to complete a
single stage even on reduced damage settings.

Or should I just hotlap trying to improve my times?

Damn, this sim has so many roads to take (literally) I'm lost at what
to attempt next ;-)

thanks for your comments,

uwe

I went from rookie / safe to amateur / reduced and had to knock it back
to safe.  if you still crash a lot you'll probably still need safe.
reduced isn't real tolerant of heavy crashes to the front end...

I say try a rookie CS with reduced damage.  I'm running an amateur CS right
now with reduced, and I'd be kicking ***if I could calm down and stay out
of trouble.  Instead, I sit somewhere around 8th.  That's fine though, as
it's forcing me to at least try to control my instinct to push REALLY hard.
The CS is as much about finishing as it is going fast, and the risk of
damage helps develop good habits IMHO.  Ditto for hotlapping as practice.
Nothing's more frustrating that concentrating hard for 3/4 of a stage,
running well, and then sliding  it into a tree after getting over confident.

Im trying to do a champ on expert/realistic at the mo. I havnt got past the
UK yet :) (best is 5th overall which wasnt good enough so i started again).
The key is not crashing, not crashing is 10x more important than driving
fast, even if you drive quite slow as long as you dont crash you'll do ok in
any champs.
Oh and btw when your on expert/realistic if you hit a bystander in the
crowd the rally comes to a halt, a medical helicopter flies in to retrieve
the body and you get a message saying something like "you have killed a
member of the public, you must retire from this rally"
  I larfed and larfed

I agree. Having to compete in the final two stages of the GB rally
with a cracked-up windshield in the rain was *not* funny. 8-P

Switch to bumper view...but that's kind of cheating I suppose.

confident.

Just started a new season (mid difficulty) with realistic damage, and the
realistic damage changes the dynamics a LOT.  I'm not referring to the big
'uns either.  I'm much more focused on keeping the driving tidy, because the
little bumps here and there can add up to costly damage.  Had a seemingly
minor off (would've been w/reduced) in the rain and ended up with damage
that took forever to fix.  I won that stage, but the 30 sec penalty dropped
me waaaay down.  I now have more to worry about than pure speed, but it's
more engaging this way.
