Out of Gas

What does one do if they run out of gas and don't make it back to the
pits.  I was using a setup I downloaded and after qualifying didn't check
my fuel and ended up running out shortly after the race started.  I
stopped just as I was entering the pits.  Is there anything that you can
do or do you just have to take a DNF?
