Nascar2 demo botched pallette?

by Robert Mull » Tue, 24 Sep 1996 04:00:00

Just downloaded the demo, and after a couple of installation tries I
get a weird color pallette. Something is definitely wrong here. My
system P5-166 w/24megs, STB Lightspeed 128 w 2.25megs , and SB awe32.
Any ideas what is going on? Adam?

Hi Robert,
It seems the STB seems to be the common thread with this problem.
I'll check on that and see what I can come up with.

releasing a touring car verion of Nascar2?? I'd love to drive that!!!)

I'm running an STB 864 pci with 2 Meg and S3 without trouble.   That
doesn't help the person with problems but it also eliminates the
possibility all STB's of having the same problem.

I believe the problems have been with the STB 128 / Tseng ET6000 chip.

Didn't help in my case. Univbe recognizes my card and I still get the
same problem, also I use dos7.0.  P150 dynamite 128.

Adam;

I am having the same pallette problem on my P5-133 which also has the STB
128 video card. Additionally, the first time I started the program the
engine sounds were fine - but since that time no engine noise at all?
Please advise.

Thanks for the help Alberto but s3vbe20.exe isn't our problem - we
don't have s3 chipset video cards.  Evidently the demo doesn't like the
Tseng 6000 chipset because the STB 128 & Herc 128 have garbled
palletes.  Please help us out Papyrus!!  I can't take driving on a
blue and red checkerboard track much longer!!

Hi Adam,

I have the STB Lightspeed 128 card and at first the demo wouldnt run for
me either, what I did was visit the Scitech forum on CIS and grab the
Univbe util, now the demo works fine as long as I load it first :)!

I have the STB Lightspeed card also and I had the same problem you had,
I grabbed UNIVBE from Scitech and it fixed the problem immediately :)!

I too am having problems with my stb card,I have read that the scitech
display doctor will fix this so I downloaded and ran it.It tells me
everything w/univbe is fine but it does not make the demo run
correctly.I have e-mailed and posted and got no direct response from
anyone at papy but did get alot of help from others (thanks!!!)but to no
avail.I really could care less about the demo I am concerened that the
full deal due out in nov will have the same problem.I read a post from
Adam saying that he was looking into "pallette problems" which I hope
was addressing my(our) problem but I don't know.

Adam and all are saying no patches for the demo, they are going to
concentrate on getting the real deal done properly. Thats going to
test the faith of those with the tseng labs chips and non-Intel chips.
I dont know about the rest of you but I will buy the full version as
soon as it is released,  but if it doesnt work I am propably going to
throw a fit.

This is correct. I had a $%&* of a time then got the univbe from
sci-tech and it runs great. I think the spotter is awesome but I would
like to see better framerates. If you want to do serious racing(this is
a sim) you have to have 28-30 fps, U hope the framerates can be tweaked
a little for the final version.I will admit the demo seems to be an
improvement over n1 but not as much as I expected.
