PlayStation LINK CABLE !!! NICE IDEA

Hello there,

There has been much discussion on the Newsgroups about the lack of Link
Mode PlayStation racing titles, inparticular V-Rally, Formula 1 '97, and
TOCA Touring Car Championship which all planned to feature it.
All those frustrated PlayStation Link Mode racers will be pleased to read
that not only does upcoming CART World Series support the Link Mode (2, 3
and 4 player racing), but also the interesting comments by Jim Buck, below:

>         We are first-party developers for Sony, and we are releasing a

then we

So there you all have it.
Finally a game that meets the demand for Link Mode games, and they'll be in
even more demand if developers and publisher release all their games with
this option intact.
That way you satisfy the current Link Mode racers, and you invite those who
haven't tried the Link Mode to try it and like the rest of us experience
the ultimate *** experience.
The time is right to include this option, as many have now experienced
while at first how good split-screen is, it just doesn't top Link Mode
playing.
Ask anyone who's tried a Full Length Split-screen Expert Mode Grand Prix in
the reduced Formula 1 '97.
So get out there and support this title that finally has included its
planned Link Mode feature!!!!
When is the PAL release Jim?

High revvingly yours,

Pasene R. Faifua.

I really like the idea of having a friend bring their machine over
for a link up game. But why didn't Sony make one machine slave the
others drive or something, I mean buying two copies of each game sux.

Because the game publishers like selling two copies of the game... :-)

Seriously though, the technical limitations: the CD->CPU bandwidth is
roughly 300K/sec. The CPU->CPU bandwidth (over the link cable) is under
3K/sec. So, unless you fancy having your games take 100 times as long to
load, I think Sony made the right call... :-)

PlayStation LINK CABLE !!! NICE IDEA

Hello there,

Good point.
Hopefully technology and econonmics will allow Sony to do just that with
their sequel to the PlayStation, be it PlayStation 2 or whatever they call
it.
For the moment though, to enjoy the finest PlayStation experience requires
two copies of a Link supported game, two televisions, two PlayStations, and
a Link Cable.
I imagine the limitation to your idea happening with the current
PlayStation is a combination of its internal generation of technology, and
also the coding developers skill in extracting it, which as we've noticed
every year they still have yet to max the machine out.
But like I said, you have a very good point which I hope they'll include
with the next generation PlayStation, or even if efficiently done include
it in upcoming titles for the current machine.

High revvingly yours,
