Finally: SEGA confirms Xbox version of OutRun 2006: Coast 2 Coast

by Air Rai » Fri, 13 Jan 2006 02:24:55

IT'S ABOUT TIME SEGA ADMITTED TO THE EXISTANCE OF THE XBOX VERSION.

It matters because without it,  you would have to settle for PS2 or PSP
downgrades of OutRun2 SP - Special Tours.        (don't know how well
the PC version will turn out)

I don't need to detail why PS2 and PSP cannot handle 100% faithful
ports of Chihiro-powered arcade games -- that is, Xbox-based arcade
games such as OutRun2 and OutRun2 SP.

Even for Xbox, it takes the developer some work to get Chihiro games
to fit into Xbox's 64MB RAM. - In OutRun2 and OutRun2SP cases, the
Chihiro arcade versions use  512 MB RAM.

okay with that out of the way, here's the n00z

OUTRUN 2006 COASTS ONTO XBOX

Sega announces OutRun 2006: Coast to Coast on Xbox, alongside PC, PS2
and PSP versions. Plus: PSP shots inside!

14:51 It's already been announced for PSP, PS2 and PC, but now Sega has
officially unveiled the Xbox version of its latest Outrun, um, outing -
OutRun 2006: Coast to Coast.
Coast to Coast features 15 new American-themed environments from the
OutRun2 SP arcade game, it says here, and includes a new mission
structure, licence mode and online play for head-to-head racing for up
to six players. There's also a total of 15 fully-licensed Ferraris to
drive around in with your hair blowing in the wind and your bum***
out the window. Hopefully, the game will also have tons of waily guitar
music too, because we really like that.

If, like us, you're currently so e***d that you're scared to stand up
in public in case anyone notices, you can check out the brand new PSP
screens from the game which we've plastered around the page like an
explosion of digital vomit.
All versions of the game are due to land on European shelves in March
this year, and we managed to get through the article without making a
single rubbish driving pun. Go us.

The PSP version is really the most interesting version (in theory);
while it should be the worst from a technical point of view, it should
offer a unique experience compared to the Xbox version (which, really,
is just a upgrade to the old version, which is great already) with its
portability. If the PSP version is online, it will be by far the obvious
choice for me, since I have the original on the Xbox already; I'll just
wait to get the Xbox version once it hits $20 (unless the PSP version
completely sucks, of course).

Ofcourse it did. Otherwise you would've been stuck with another PS2
exclusive Sega title on your conscience, like there isn't enough
already.

OutRun 2006 CTC was not going to be exclusive to PS2.... there was
always a PS2, PSP and PC version announced from the beginning.   ok
exclusive to PS2 has far as *consoles* yeah, before the Xbox version
got became official.

It was just going to be another uglier version of an original Xbox
game with more tracks and cars and stuff.  Plus, without the fabulous
Live support, there was no way I'd have played it online.  If that's
what you mean then yes I am happy I can get it on the system it was
originally designed for (more than the PS2 anyway), and play it on the
best online service for a console.
But you never played the original Outrun 2, having never bought an
Xbox, so I doubt you'll notice the lowered framerate and blurry
textures of the upcoming PS2 version.  Since its technically a PC game
in your book (any game that ever ends up on the PC is a PC game
according to you, remember), I'm sure you've got a backlog of Japanese
only PS2 titles to banter on about being superior to anything ever made
for any system, back to work.

oh look.. Scott H has turned into a graphics ***, what a long way
someone who claimed to be a hard-core old school gamer has fallen.
Whatever happened to polished game design and innovative game play? oh
that's right.. it only applied to the OTHER GUYS. You're more than
happy to play sequels and remakes so long as it's not on a console you
hate.

yeah  it is.. and I have no interest in it except to egg you with it

yeah for starters, the immensely entertaining and high production value
Ryu ga Gotoku, coincidentally made by Sega, an original, non-sequel
game that's highly polished, features a innovative combat engine,
high-production value, and.. did I mention it's made by Sega? but
nope.. don't know.. don't care, because it's on a console you despise.
Maybe when it drops to a budget $20 title sometime in 2007 when it gets
localized you might pick it up  from the budget bin, find out it's
actually an awesome game, and then go and post a review about how it's
not a bad game, but still missing.. yada yada yada, (if this rings a
bell it should, think back to Dororo: *** Will Tell). How can you not
see the blatant double standard to which you judge games on Sony
consoles comparative to other console?
