N2K2 Replay Discrepancy

I wanted to know if the replay recorder will look different for two people
in the same race.

I was taken out early in a full length race at Coca-Cola. On my replay it
clearly shows him drifting high off his line and punting me into the wall,
but he says that on his replay he sees space between the two cars the whole
time and that all of a sudden sparks come flying out of the bottom of my car
and I go flying into the wall. He thinks I may have bottomed out and lost
control, but that had never happened to me before and we were racing with
fixed setups and it didn't happen to anyone else. He does admit that his
force feedback wheel indicated that he made contact however.

Is it possilbe that the two replays could look different, or is it more
likely he is comming up with a sorry ass excuse?

Yes the replays will be different.  Biggest issue is warping.
The best replay to review is the one on the server as it shows what the
server seen from both of your connections.

Almost everyone in a race has a little different "view" of a race. I could
believe it right up till the part about his FF acting like you guys hit. I
would think that if the FF "knew" you guys collided the graphics would show
it as well. Have he clip out the wreck from hi replay and send it to you.

Welcome to online racing. I can assure you (having served on numerous replay
committees for leagues and running my own league for a time) that no two
replays from a single online event will look the same. IT is possible for
yours to exonerate you and his to exonerate him, I've seen it 50+ times from
N3 to today.

The only way around machines and servers getting confused in this way is to
LAN race. Sorry.

The replays certainly can be different.

The incident you mention happens all the time.

All it takes as a micro-warp, and it's all over.

Usually the guy who warped will never see it in his replay because his
replay is recorded from local data, not internet data.
