I'd like to upgrade my current Analog joystick to something that would offer
better perfomance at a reasonable price.

Anyone have any suggestions - ie would I see a noticeable difference simply
buying a digital joystick?  Do wheels make a huge difference over joystick?
Has anyone tried one of those 'paddle' type sticks?  Any help you could
provide would be appreciated.

The games I would want to use it for are CPR and F1RS.

Although there are some out there who seem to excell with any type of
controller, for us mere mortals a wheel and/or wheel pedal setup offers a huge
performance increase. Check out the controllers section at The Gamespot for a
good summary of controllers available in most markets.

If you primarily want something for driving sims, you definitely want
to get a wheel and pedal setup.  It may seem impractical at first,
compared to a joystick that can "do it all," but you just can't put a
pricetag on how much more fun a driving game is with a wheel and
pedals.

For a look at how the Thrustmaster NASCAR Pro wheel and the Thomas
Enterprises TSW2 compare, check out the following link:

No matter what you decide, I think you'll be better off if you do get
a wheel-and-pedal combo for driving games.  If price is a concern and
you do need a joystick for other games, then make it a budget-priced
wheel for racing, and a decent mid-range analog joystick for
everything else, and you should be in business.

Is that the flight yoke? It would be better value if it was, so I
could use it with flight sims.

Definitely upgrade to a wheel. The extra degree of control you get is
significant.

Reasonable price? Well, games mags over here in the UK seem to
frequently mention new cheapo steering wheels. Awesomely plasticy
though. I wouldn't like to know what their average lifetime is. But
the point is that there is a good range available at modest prices.

I would get the Microsoft FF wheel.  I have been using it for a couple of
months with all of the racing games/simulations out there.  I really like
it.  It is especially fun with TOCA.  I don't know when the wheel will be
available to the general public, nor the price.
