I still play it alot. (especially at this time of year :)
The top lap I know I have done is over 240 MPH (Buick of course....that
speed may have been 241 MPH). Did anybody ever finish the FULL 500 mile
distance??? I did it once....with the Buick and won. I had my boost at
about 4-5 for most of the race which I suppose you have to do to finish
with Buick power.

I remember getting around 236 in qualifying. My fastest single lap was 239.6??

I finished many times in all three cars. My fastest lap time was 236 mph
in the chevy (234 in the buick). The first time I won the FULL 500 race
though was in the buick. The only time I reduced the boost (only down to
7) was when I was in the lead and had lots of margin between me and the 2nd
place car, and that was only to conserve fuel. I could barely get 30 laps
in running at the 9th level of boost. Your setup must be really harsh on
the engine (I would guess so if your doing 240mph).
Before ICR came along I had to skip qualifying and start each race at the
rear in order to keep it entertaining. I usually had the lead by the 3rd
pit stop. I think the object to finishing the race there was to sacrifice
speed for good handling. My fastest race lap was only 228-229mph in all
3 cars.
I only wish I was doing that good at Indy in the ICR sim. I can only get
to 221 and am not very consistent. I don't see it getting any faster any
time soon either (unless somebody can offer some good tips and/or setups).

I used to play the old Indy500 on an Amiga using the mouse for control.
My best qualifying times were 234 mph to 236 mph and therefore always
started first. My racing and qualifying setups were similiar.
For racing I used 2 different setups, one for a close race and another
when I wanted to blow away the competition.
I just booted up my Amiga for the first time in a couple of years and
tried racing and put up a qulifying time of 231.5 on my second try.
My normal racing setup is
Wings 70% ( 4 clicks down from top ) front and back
*** right side Medium
left side Soft
Stagger 0.0
Pressure RF 23
RR 23
LR 24
LF 24
Shocks RF 90%
RR 0%
LR 0%
LF 0%
Camber RF -0.25
RR 0.00
LR +1.25
LF +0.75
Gears 1st 9.53
2nd 6.11
3rd 4.18
4th 4.10
For faster but riskier racing raise the wings to 80%.
For qualifying I just set wings to 80%, stagger to +0.40 and soft tires
all round.
If this works on the PC version I don't know.
