Corner workers = marshals

Corner workers = marshals

by MarkCro » Mon, 05 Oct 1998 04:00:00

OK, it's finally got to me, after weeks of reading messages on this forum, I am
driven to make a contribution.

In 1967 I had not yet developed my interest in motor racing, but I am almost
certain that the selfless band of heroes who man the MARSHALLING posts around
the circuits of Europe were never referred to as "corner workers".

They were certainly known to the English-speaking participants as marshals for
the next twenty years.

And whilst we're on the subject, The "Clerk of the course" (referring to a much
earlier thread) was the fella who would decide on giving you the black flag.

Can the US contingent tell us what terms were used in the States in the 60's?

Am I taking this sim too seriously?  Blame Papyrus who have me believing that I
have been born again, this time fulfilling my true destiny as an international
racing driver of real promise.

And why does Murray walker talk about "training" instead of "practice" these
days?

Incidentally, since this little anomally is my biggest gripe, it will be
obvious to all that I think GP legends is the finest piece of software I have
had the pleasure of using in a long time.  Compliments to the developers.  I
hope they realise that the criticism they occasionally receive from this and
other forums s a measure of the importance that their achievement has taken on
for thousands of players (users?) worldwide.
