IWCCCARS: Winston Select/Coke 600 Update, more...

by Tony Joh » Fri, 24 May 1996 04:00:00

Hello, everyone...

Seems like forever since I've posted an IWCCCARS update here.  Things
have been going a little rough lately, but I'll get to that in a
second.

Updated today:

CARS96 -- We did a HUGE update to this one.  All the Winston Select
and Coke 600 changes (as of quals, anyway) are done.  The #75
Remington Ford made me wish for a Paintkit that allowed a full-body
paintjob, tho..

PROMO96 -- Don't worry.  All the paint that got replaced in Winston
Cup this week is still alive in PROMO.  Especially nice for those who
think Derrike Cope's orange and blue Badcock Ford looks ugly.. like
me.

TRUCKS96 -- Second preliminary version.  Steve Curnow is doing a lot
of journeyman work on this set, which is delaying ASA96.  Problem is,
he's the only one working on the set at the moment.  So ANY progress
on the set deserves some big kudos to Steve.

ATCC96A -- Got this in the mail from team member Greg Hingerty.  If
you haven't seen the Australian Touring Cars yet, these are really
sweet-looking.

And now, on to the news.

As some of you know, I support IWCCCARS out of my own pocket.  That
includes site fees, extra space for the carsets on our ISP, bandwidth
charges, etc.  As you may also know, my wife and I are expecting our
first child here in about 4-5 weeks.  Add that to my work schedule and
full-time school over the summer (heck, I gotta graduate SOMETIME) and
my time has dropped to about zero.  And so has my money.

Plans to upgrade the site to a new Web provider, along with a domain
name, mailing lists, etc. have been suspended indefinitely, which is
going to disappoint and anger some of you who are frustrated with the
speed of the site.  I'm working on some options but frankly there
aren't that many.  I've talked with Thrustmaster and a couple of other
people to sponsor (read "fund") the site, but no dice... I guess the
nature of our work precludes any respectable ties. ;-)

So basically, right now I'm asking everyone to please bear with me
over the next couple of months.  The Racer's Choice Web Directory is
still in development, although it's going to be stalled for a bit
until I can figure a few things out.  With luck, I'll get this mess
worked out and get everything back on track.

Thanks for your support!
