Is it only me , but has any one noticed the inconsistent frame rates in
Colin McRae 2, when running a stage i n the wet? Take stage 1 in Finland;
there are a few areas on the track where my FPS drop from 38 to as little as
15. Nothing I do seems to be able to change this. I have tried turning force
feedback on and off (and changing force %), changing screen resolution,
changing the graphics settings (with Vsynch off and a variety of different
graphics driver used), but all to no avail. Its strange because snow falling
in the Sweden stages does not affect my frame rate.

Anyone got a solution?

Just for reference I have a 1.4 Athlon, 512 mb ram,  Geforce 2 Ultra (64mb),
MS Wheel (force feedback), run 32 bit/16bit 1024 res.

Hi Paul,

that's strange, because I have a PIII 450 running at 530something, and a
GeForce 2 MX, and CMR 2.0 runs pretty well with no such terrible
slowdowns. Are you by any chance running any FSAA settings? Also, what
drawing distance do you use? It jsut might be possible (though I doubt
it, considering it's a 64 MB card) that with too large a drawing
distance, not all textures fit into the memeory and AGP starts to be
used, and this bogs things down.

I hope the above pointers are useful.

Oh, and cubic environment mapping might be the culprit as well, try
turning that one off in options by setting it to standard (I don't even
think about turning it on on my system :) ).

I am only using Standard for environmental mapping, and never use FSAA.
I might even try re-installing the game again, if I thought that would make
a difference?

I know it sounds silly but make sure youve got forcefeedback effects
switched off......just a thought!

i have exactly the same problem (PIII 800, 128mb, Geforce 2 MX, MSWFF),
and never found any solution (driver, resolution, different video
settings...), except turning off effects...
i keep watching the thread...
