Andretti Racing OUT!!!

I just got a call from EB and they told me that they got
in Andretti Racing 98. With the mix of Nascar and Cart this game looks
pretty damn nice and keeping in mind that AR98 does support 3D accel. I
just hope that this game holds up to the screen shots unlike CART
Precision where the screen shots look fab then when you try it out its
got dog ass frame rates and so forth. Well going to EB in a few hours so
more on it later. By the way my system is a P200/Monster3d/16megs.

If anyone has gotten their hands on AR98, please, POST SOMETHING about
it!!

(cuz I wanted the Force Feedback support).  He said 'Don't get that...it's
the shits, in my opinion.'  'Get NFS 98 when it comes out, it's a ton
better.'

This, from a programmer at EA!  I dunno, I might just get it anyway.

Tony Gaylord enlightened the world with this pearl of wisdom...

I had frame rate problems on a 266MHz Pentium II with a 3Dfx card. You
have been warned...

Anyone thinking it's a sim should be advised it plays best with a
gamepad.

canada - and he told me that since ANdretti racing was made in
California that the folks in Canada haven't seen much of it ... he
seemed to contradict what you said ... I wonder ...

I was interested in this one too (Particularly after disappointment
of CART Precision Racing).

I saw a user posting yesterday and the bad news was that the user said
it was another piece of D3D rubbish. Unrealistic everything, plus
bad frame rates on a P200mmx.

This is not a good sign. Lets hope he was trying to run it on a Virge
or something.

Cheers

Thanks, Randy. By your preview it doesn't sound too bad if you like
arcade racers (which I do). Why do you think the game seems to be
getting so harshy trashed on the newsgroups? People really seem to
hate this game. This is hapenning in the 3dfx forum too, so I don't
think it's caused by people expecting/wanting a *** sim.

willing to be the first to try it! Come on America (you who can return flawed
games to EB) we need some info! >>

You can read my hands-on preview at www.digitalsports.com, and the copy I got
was darn near final.  I should be getting a final for review next week and
you'll see the full, comprehensive review of the game there.

Hi John

I enjoy reading your comments, but as i don't get time to read every post,
it's kinda hard to pick up the thread when you post new messages and not
list the subject in discussion.

The problem may be that its a little too simmy to be pure arcade, but
too arcade to come off as a sim.  On the Playstation, the formula
worked pretty well, but on the PC, well, its a different audience.  I
definitely felt that with a fast system, the game was fun to play --
as long as I didn't take it toooo seriously.

I think this is going to be one of those games where the people who
like it are afraid to admit it for fear of being flamed by the
vocal-bashers, so they will appear to be non-existent.

I love my *** sims, but I don't see any reason for there to be no
room in the marketplace for racing games that rely a little more on
pick-up-and-race instead of pick-up-do-1000-hotlaps-then-maybe-race
