Larry's Car Adventure

by Larr » Sat, 08 Jun 2002 21:43:34

This subject has gotten fragmented over several threads, so I'm starting a
new one :)  It's become too hard to keep track of!

In our last episode, Larry (me) proved he was a paint-shop/customer car
dummy.  We pick up from there...

I'll race the 48 car for now because I really, REALLY don't have time to
deal with this right now.

As a permanent fix, assign me to the #98 car.

LTB-Racer.  USA.

I've installed Photoshop Elements to work on the car.  I think I have the
right templates to use.

I played around with it a bit last night (3am) but never could figure out
where the hell to put the modified file so I could import it into NR2002.
The Import file dialog doesn't let you traverse directories (that is stupid)
so it must want them in a special place.

Maybe the Photoshop file has to be saved with a special file extension.
Hell, I don't know.  I've never read this section of the manual and I will
try tonight.

I've got some idea's on the scheme, and I think it's something no one has
ever done before :)

Ok, got templates.  Got Elements up and running.  Did some quick stuff, and
figured out how to get the template glued to the car in NR2002.

I'm on a roll now :)

Figured out most of this by using Google and searching the subject on the
web for tips.

The manual is absolutely useless, and compared to previous versions Sierra
should be ashamed of themselves.

How about if you just start out using the right car number?

I have a #98 car already done that you can use until you come up
with/find something you like better.  Having people change car numbers
is a pain in the ass as far as keeping track of things is concerned.

If you want to use the 98 car I have, let me know, and I'll make the
file right for your use and will upload it to racesimcentral.

It's John Andretti's RCA Ford from 1997 and can be seen here:

        http://www.paddedwall.org/nr2002cars/

I need your first/last name as well (for the roster AND the car file).

Ok!  The rough-draft of the #98 Dog-Dog Express is done!

I've got the murials in place and the numbers in place.  The numbers need a
little positional tweaking, but they are close.

The stickers look to be a pain.  I may just find another black car in NR2002
and cut/paste then in in sections.

I'm not sure the #98 was the best choice :)  The side numbers are ok, but
the roof number presents positional challanges because the number can be
read two different ways depending on the angle.  I'll have to look at other
cars to see how they get around this.

So far, so good :)

I did find that Photoshop stinks for text work, so I did the numbers in
Canvas 8 on my Mac and moved them over to the PC.  This was MUCH easier than
futzing with then in Photoshop.

John,

Thanks for the offer :)

I already have the car done enough to use today under the #98 number.  It's
missing stickers and a few tweaks, but it's good enough.

I'll be running it today.

Thanks :)

says...

Everybody that knows Nascar knows how to read the numbers.  They're
supposed to be readable fromt he driver's side of the car.  Don't worry
about it.

I grabbed them.  Thanks :)

I've already worked this out, but if they look a lot better than what I have
I'll use them instead.

Thanks!
