Ok, I am not good at Monaco. Correction - I am not good anywhere -
1:53 mexico is about my best showing. Anyway, I thought I'd seriously
attack this track from afresh, as my PB was a 1:34.9 in the Brabham.
So, follow the same routine as any other track - a dozen laps in the
Cooper, followed by a dozen in the Eagle, then on to Lotus - usual
plan.
Cooper - consistent but slow - 1:37s, not many spins.
Eagle - now we're moving and its more stable - almost making the apex
in the twisty bits (what IS the plural of "apex"?). 1:34.01 - that's a
PB! Power on a bit earlier and we'll be in the 1:33s - up the hill,
tail slides, into the guard rail and my Eagle is gyrating over the
Mediterranean at a fixed height. "Click" and we're suddenly back at
Windows desktop - GPL has NEVER before done that to me.
No problem for a good driver who just remembers his line that time,
restarts and repeats, but what use is that to me?
Back out can NOT get a clean lap in the Eagle again... duh!
Not looking for anything but sympathy!

feel better and drive better!

Hi Laurence,

Personally I'd dump the eagle.
It's very long and wide and a bit too big for monaco. Try the Brabham
again or maybe the nimble ferrari. They're much more suited to the tight corners.

There's a good Ferrari setup on the LOR track guide page
http://www.gmmhost.co.uk/gmmhost/legendscentral/LOR/trackguides/gpl/i...
and a replay.

Very tricky track that.

Yes, I know that theory about the Brabham, but in practice I can't
hold it under braking into Gazometres. I think its because my T2 has
single axis pedals, and coming right off the throttle to apply the
brakes unsettles any car, especially the Brabham right there. Also
especially Big Bend at Watkins! (and that hairpin at Rouen). I think I
just don't have enough stability to do any trail braking, and this is
why all my times are poor (GPL Rank 106). That's my excuse, anyway.
The Eagle has good stability if not much else.
Cheers,

I use a T2 as well, and have gotten my handicap down to -3.79 with it,
and still falling.  It breaks a lot, but when it's working, it's a
decent unit.  I have no trouble trail braking with it either.  You just
need to practice, the T2 works fine.  As for Gazometres, the gas+brake
technique probably would help on a system with dual-axis pedals, but
the T2 obviously can't do that.  I find though, that a sufficiently
stable setup is all you need to get through there reasonably quickly.
Try Alison's setups;  they are fundamentally stable, with a fair amount
of understeer.  That helps keep you from swapping ends in those curved
braking zones like the one before Gazometres.  And you can get rid of
the understeer in corners where you don't want it via trail braking.

Works for me, more or less.  I'm sure that a dual-axis system would
allow somewhat more speed, but I've done a 1:28.86 at Monaco in the
Ferrari, with Alison's setup and my T2.  The combination is certainly
good enough to get below all the Papy times.

        Hope it helps,

        Marc
