I just saw that Alex Santantonio has a utility which upgrades the
graphics a bit for the N2 version of Indy (as opposed to the original
ICR1 graphics):

http://www.racesimcentral.net/

So, since I'm on this kick about enhancing Indy and all I thought I'd
give it a shot.  In the end there were 4 files that I really liked.  The
best one is a new texture for the tower on the inside of the track at
the start/finish line (the big grey one that says "Indianapolis 500" on
it).  So, using pure file swapping again, I copied the following files
over...

    Old File           New File      Description
 ----------------------------------------------------
Indytow.mip       Indytow.mi4    The new infield tower texture.
                                     the one with "Indianapolis
                                      500" printed on it

    Scor1.mip         Scor1.mi4      New Pennzoil scoreboard..
                                         says "It's a "

    Grand5.mip        Grand5.mi4     New Grandstand scoreboards..
                                      says "RECORD"
                                      also has Budweiser, Coca Cola
                                      and Goodyear textures.

House3.mip        House3.mi4     New (kinda) texture for the
                                      building just to the right
after turn 2 (with the railing)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Alex has the same utility for N1 floating around somewhere (I can't
remember where I got it), but his N2 textures were better (IMO).  So, I
did the same thing to my version of Indy for N1 and no problems.  BTW,
I'm running a Pentium 200 w/ Sierra Screamin' 3D and 32 Megs of SDRAM
and I get a consistent 30fps with ALL textures on and a full car field.

If anyone comes up with some good combinations or textures, post it or
let me know.  Thanks!!

Yeah, but does anyone have a patch that moves downtown
Indianapolis from outside of turn 1 to outside of turn 2 where
it's supposed to be?

< has anyone a patch that moves....

Yes, when you use te original horizon.mip, as you should imo, you have to
change the coordinates for the textures in the horizon.3do. If you are
interested in my solution, send me a short note.

The original horizon mip looks HORRIBLE against the enhanced Michigan
sky.  I haven't tried any of the other sky textures yet but I know
Michigan's is the wrong shade of blue.

Okay, when adding sky the colors of the sky and the horizon must match.
Usually you have to change the color of the horizon.

Espacially at Indy, I think the horizon should not be changed, because it
is typical for this track.

I took the sky from one of the N2 tracks. They can easier be changed to
match the horizon. mip

Perhaps that's to denote the real life smog that clouds the air of this polluted
industrial city !  :-)

Michigan Speedway is in the Irish Hills in Brooklyn, MI.  Far from the
madding crowd (and pollution) ;~)
