StealthII worth the money?

StealthII worth the money?

Okay, I'll volunteer :).  How much actual improvement?  Its hard to say in
DOS/Redline modes because I have no specific benchmarks for that, but I did
run the Direct3D benchmark made by PC Player in Germany, which renders an
action scene using all the Direct3D hardware and measures frame rates.  It
literally doubled the benchmark value jumping from the Intergraph
Reactor/Intense 3D to the Stealth II.

Good question.  Are we talking DOS 2D or Windows 2D?  Seems like its a tad
faster, but it didn't actually pump up  GP2 much that I noticed.

 someday Nascar2 and SODA will get a 3dfx or Direct3d patch?(ya right).  >>

I stuck with Rendition because of the doubled Direct3D performance and the fact
that it would be backwards compatible with SODA and NASCAR 2 (though I'm
having trouble keeping the latter alive more than  10 minutes with the new
 board in DMA mode).

I experienced NO N2 performance increase with the Stealth II over my CL
PCI 3D Blaster.  Yes its a better card, but if your wanting to upgrade
primarily for N2 my advice is wait for something better.

Keep the Rendition card and just buy a 3Dfx addon card (OEM $99).  3Dfx
Nascar2 is being worked on.

StealthII worth the money?

I would hold off and wait to see if a patch comes out from either
Sierra/Rendition/Diamond so that N2 (if that is what you are wanting
to play) will run N2 from DOS. I have the Stealth II and it seems to
be better than my Matrox Millennium 4mg (strickly seat of pants
evaluation I have no bench marks to share) card in both Win95 and N2.
The problem is that N2 will not start in Rendition mode from a DOS
prompt, it will only run under Win95. Even after upgrading my CPU from
a P133 to a P200MMX in an attempt to run N2 in rendition mode I cannot
turn all the features on and have the game run smoothly (terrible
trying to modem play).

I currently only have a 32megEDO DIMM, My next purchase will be for a
64megSDRAM module. When I walked into CompuUSA last week I thought I
would be able to spend $119 and PRESTO I would be able to run N2 in
Rendition mode. Now another $200 for a faster CPU and plans to spend
another $200 for memory I am still chasing that desire to get all
features on and Rendition mode within N2.

The short answer IMHO would be to hang onto your Screaming3d for now
and watch this newsgroup for a patch to the Stealth II before spending
your hard earned money.
