Jim...No Multi--No Multiplayer Question

Hi Jim,

After helping more than a few people solve their modem
difficulties I thought maybe you could shed some light
on the cause of the problem.
It seems that if the "multi" carset is not present in
N2 one will get a "can't initialize modem" error and is
precluded from dialing and connecting to anyone in a head
to head situation.
Likewise, when trying to get to the race selection screen
while in Kali or Kahn one will get a " can't initialize ipx card"
error and is again kept from racing on the internet.
Neither message leads one to believe that they have a carset
problem. And most folks I've talked to have been pulling their
hair out thinking it's a modem problem.
Up til now it has been a problem primarily with Chris Fredericks'
car set placing the default car sets into another directory while
installing itself as the sole set.(Chris has since released another
version of the set, that addresses the prob). But I can foresee
further problems due to the limit on the amount of cars we are
allowed to have in the sim. It's all too easy to delete a default
set to make room for one of our own creations.
So, I wonder if is possible to adjust the error message to reflect
a genuine modem/ipx card problem or the lack of the multi set.
And.. how come it gives the "initialization" error message when the
problem is a missing car set?

Regards,:)

The "can't initialized IPX card" might be due to the fact that your running
Kali/Kahn95 and N2 was installed thru DOS. You need to do the Win95 install
of N2 to get rid of that message! More info is a http://www.wheretorace.com

I had this message WITH the Win'95 Nascar2 installation.  It's because
you have to have the same carset as each other people in the game.  Like
in multiplayer.  Just take the Multi carset and it will be OK.  But all
the cars inside the Multi must be the original ones.  If you deleted
them and put 97 cars (like I did) just get them on the CD-rom.  Good
