GTR: I recant!! SIMBIN, thank you!

My initial dislike (many months ago) was clearly due to my system not being
able to take advantage of what this sim offers.

I completed building a new PC over the weekend which has demonstrated in a
most capable fashion that many extremely enjoyable hours can be spent behind
the wheel in GTR.

Suffice to say that, so far, this new PC essentially has only 2 programs on
it (other than the basic Windows XP /IE stuff).......GTR and the GTL demo!
:)

I'm in heaven!!! :) :)

No, I don't think so. The plastic CD case causes too much discomfort.

Is that what you meant? Or does the "vacuum" part of your name refer to the
space inside your cranium?

you are missing out on Rfactor then (since you only have 2 games on it).
Ill sell you my "rights & key" to it, cheap.  I do not have the time to mess
with it, I find myself driving the GTLegends demo 3 of 4 hours.

I have to say the same. After moving my old 2.53 GHz intel to my sons room
and replacing it with Athlon 4000+, GF 7800 GT and 2 Gt of RAM, game has
changed dramatically. Its amazing how fast the new PC loads everything. But
the main difference is ofcourse the game itself. With 100% options ON and
max resolution, I dont have a single problem. Game is running smooth and
with what a details....

Needles to say, if any of you are commenting the game because of old/slow
PC, please thing again. But, the developers should still thing about the
average PC setup.

I had a similar issue, Bruce. The thing that really did it for was
adjusting the FOV and it suddenly felt right. Before that I could not
get a controller setting that conveyed the right feel. Maybe that was
just me though!

I have found rFactor to give an even improved feel, although it lacks
the interest for some in terms of cars and tracks. However, for open
wheel enthusiasts the Advanced Trainers (think Formula Ford 2000 or
similar) are a real gem. Add some solid online capability and I would
whole heartedly recommend it - providing fantasy tracks and cars aren't
a showstopper. Otherwise wait to see what the quality of promised mods
deliver.

Cheers
Tony

Thanks, Uwe.
rFactor doesn't capture my imagination, unfortunately. (I still have the
multiplayer demo here somewhere).
For one, I don't race online; it holds no interest even though I've tried it
over the years.
In addition, fictional cars and circuits aren't my thing.
I know that sooner or later real cars and circuits will become available so
until then I'll make out okay with GTR and GTL. :)

Would these cars interest you ?

I know they may not be from "your era", but it's a wee glimpse of what
can be done in rFactor :)

I've never had much interest in fantasy cars and tracks but I'm currently
racing in an rFactor advanced trainer online league and the racing has
just been too good to ignore.  The tracks that come with rFactor and
underrated too.  There's a lot more hours of enjoyment than people
probably realise at first glance.

It's the longer tracks that really do it for me. Mills Long and the
Toban and Toban Reverse long circuits are really fun and have a great
"flow" to them, unlike many current circuits with their seemingly never
ending chicanes. My new found fav is the Birmingham track, actually all
of them. The long one is great for endurance racing allowing a nice
spread of the field and pit strategy to actually play out. After first
setting up rFactor, I too felt that the fantasy element would wear on
me, the opposite is true. The Howston is the most fun tin top and the
F3 mod is dynamite. To think about what is in store for us....
