IS MY ENGINE SEIZING UP???? -------- In GP2 ???????

by Mika Vannik » Mon, 20 Jul 1998 04:00:00

Hello -------

I seem to have encountered a problem lately in where I have been
attempting to change the setups for more vigorous racing against the
competitors in GP2.

Now -------- it seems on the long straights -------- and in sixth
gear -------------- thte engine performance is beginning to fall awsay
dramatically --------- down some thousand or so RPM at least ---------
and taking away some twenty or so MPH top speed.

Has anyone else ever encountered this problem? and If so, what did
you find was the problem?  I seem to be getting the handling down to a
science, and am getting acceleration to spped great, but after around
three or so laps, at San Marino , Germany, Monza, Silverstone, all
with long straights -------- this performance fall-off occurs!!!!

    I am frustrated -------- tried everything -------- I thought!

Your assistance in this matter is appreciated!!!

     Doug

P.S. ----------- if it is a program bug -------- is there a patch
available to correct it?

It sounds to me like you're probably wearing out the plank.  GP2
handles excesive plank wear by giving a performance penalty rather
than disqualification.  Check the damage indicator to see if the plank
marker (stripe down the centre) is flashing yellow a lot towards the
end of a long straight.  If it starts to flash bright red then you
have exceeded the allowed ammount of wear and will start to suffer a
performance penalty.  You can check plank wear from within the
advanced car setup screens.

Hope that helps,
  Simon

Try raising the ride height of the car until the centre indicator on the
***pit car map does not stay on during the fastest sections on the track.
This indicates that the plank under the car is touching the ground. After a
few laps this will wear below the allowable limit and instead of being DQ'ed
the max speed is limited. You should notice that when the car is slower the
wear indicator changes colour.
