Hi Simmers:
My client wants me to setup his PPro as a Solaris web
server.
This is something I've never done, so I'm doing it for free.
On the up side, I get to have the PC for a couple of months.
I'M GOING TO GET TO DO MULTI-PLAYER --- WOOHOO!!!
So, I want to fit it out with equipment I'll move to my
next PC when this goes back.
I'm only interested in PCI devices, I think that is the
only slots my next PC will have.
First, what sound card do I want?
The PDPI is ISA only, and I'd like to give it a little more
time to mature, so I would like this sound card to have a
joystick port, preferably digital, and switch-offable. The
absence of a joystick port would not be a deal breaker if the
sound card is superior to the alternatives. I have a spare ACM.
F1RS racers with the necessary horsepower seem to be
impressed with that sim's 3D sound patch. Their reports are so
glowing, I think this technology will spread, if it hasn't
already. So I want the sound card to support it. Do these
things do discrete 3D sound, with four or five channels? Or
is this an effect that can be fully exploited with a pair of
speakers?
I also need a video.
I'm thinking hard about the Quantum single card SLI. I know
it's quite a bit more expensive than two single Voodoo 2 cards.
Is anybody else putting two Voodoo chip sets on a single card?
Of course, I don't want either card to be the secret Andy
Hollis "Flashing MFD" problem card.
Anything else I should be thinking of?
Thanks
Larry
