Here's a weird one

If there's any electronic gurus out there who can explain this, I'd
really like to know what it is!

A few years ago I bought a new TSW that has had a faulty mini pin plug
and/or wire from the pedals to the steering unit.  All sorts of bizarre
things happen when the pedals stop functioning and it requires some
frantic manipulation of the wire and pin to get things working again.
This was bad enough, but I more or less learned to live with it.

But a couple of  weeks ago, a friend brought his system to my place and
we connected our systems together with a null modem cable and spent the
day racing GPL.  No matter what the track, his identical car had more
top speed than mine, even when I exited the turn faster than him.  He'd
simply repass me on the straight.  Recalibration didn't work.  "Short"
calibration didn't work.  I was puzzled.

So after he left, as an experiment, I dug out my old T2 pedals (You know
the ones -- they're held together with bubble gum and bungee cords) and
plugged the TSW wheel into them.  I used the T2 driver and calibrated
the unit.  Lo and behold, I immediately lopped over a second off my best
Monza time and have improved my Spa time by nearly four seconds.  What
would cause that?  Is it a faulty pot?  I'm really baffled.

Anyway, I'm going to continue using the hybrid until I can get some idea
of how to cure the problem.
