OK, after almost ,-) everyone including me shouted how much fun GP2 is,
I've to state some disappointments. I must admit, that I've not much
experience with the game so far, so (hopefully) some of the following
statements could be wrong. Please tell me, if you've found out otherwise.
1.) What about the black marshall flag? Though the manual said that, after
you've seen this flag, you have to do a pit stop all you get is a
reducing of your speed to 80 mph for approximately 5 minutes. This
happened to me in Monaco, where I accidentically took a shortcut through
a chicane. Why isn't the pitstop-penalty implemented?
As for the other flags, did anyone see the blue or the black flag with
the orange point on it?
2.) Why isn't there any chance to see for how many minutes you are behind
the leader. You don't know the positions of the other drivers, you don't
know exactly who is before or behind you, except when crossing the finish
line. This is especially disturbing during a modem game, when you're not
able to tell if you're getting nearer your opponent or not. I really
liked the _position display_ in ICR2.
3.) There are no sounds from other cars. Why not?
4.) There is NO weather. I really was looking forward to weather changes
during the race, so that you have to decide wether to stay on slicks or
change to wets. I remember a race in 1995 where Michael Schuhmacher
stayed on his slicks while the other drivers (inlcuding the leading
Damon) changed to wet tires. Than the rain stops - Damon changed again to
Slicks after he'd loosed a couple of minutes - and begin again so that
now all drivers had to put on wets - inlcuding Damon making his third
unnecessary pit stop.
5.) Why isn't the wheel lock included in the car setup? You can find it
in the control setup, but you have to leave the race when you realize,
that your wheel lock is small. This happened to me in Monte Carlo. I
qualified for pole, but wanted to change my wheel-lock inspite of the
really narrow curves. Had to save, leave and start a new race to try the
new wheel lock and than load the game once more. A very unsatisfiable
procedure!
6.) The replays last only 20 seconds and cannot be saved during a race.
Of course you're able to save your hotlap during a qualification, but
there's no chance to see your 'herolike zig-zag overtaking manouveres'
again.
