N3: How to accelerate quicker

Most online races have no pace lap.  When the green
flies, I always get passed by several cars.  I'm sure
my slow acceleration adds to the lap 1 problems
resulting in a frustrating online race for everyone.

How can I get off the line faster?  Use a different
gear setup for no-pace races (e.g. 10.00 for first)?
(I'm usually at Talledega, like lots of newbies).
I usually press the gas just a little prior to the
flag, so the car starts moving as soon as the computer
gives me control.

Does it just take lots of practice to accurately
depress the gas deliberately such that the rear
wheels come close to breaking loose but never quite do?

Should I stay in first or quickly change to 2nd?

What's a good way to practice this with the AI?
Set them at 125%, no pace, and just try to keep
up with them to the backstretch?  Or are the AI
slower accelerators than on-line?

Thanks for any advice.

I just hold the gas down prior to the green and keep the car in a straight
line.  I always keep even with the other cars that way.

Doug I have multiple setups for each track and sometimes for different
temps like at Dega.
I have one setup with a low 1st gear with 2nd and 3rd equally spaced up
to 4th gear. I use these for No Pace Lap Races.
Then for Pace Lap Races, I set 1st gear by running behind pace car and
setting gear ratio to be running around 6,500-7,000 rpm. I usually put a
"P" in the setup name Deg70RP, P stands for Pace On.  I also use this
1st gear ratio for my qual setup since your running 45-60 at end of pit
road.

Yeah....then in the first turn you lose it cause your tires need 2 laps to heat
up while the simms take of like they're on rails...... or you have to ease
through turn 1 and watch them all fade from view......unless of coures you make
them run at 85% then you can catch them on the back stretch and glide through 3
& 4......

Here I was thinking I was the only one kicking up smoke
when I stand on it off the line!  At least that's what
it looks like on the replay.  I was concerned for those
behind me.  But if everybody starts at full throttle
(and full tire squeal), then the software must be disabling the
smoke at the start, otherwise it would look like a fogbank.

The smoke must get turned back on pretty quickly since
I've seen plenty at turn 1 ;-)

Thanks to everyone.  Time to get the Tally brick back out! :-)

I usually floor it when there is no pace lap. Ive tried to ease into
the throttle but I find i dont get up to speed as fast and get passed
quickly. The only problem with flooring it is making sure you keep the
car straight or youll spin 'er.
One thing I always wondered tho........do most people floor it with no
pace lap? When I look at my replays Im the only one spewing tire
smoke, so I kinda feel like the only one with the pedal down.
A race start with 20+ drivers spewing smoke would be pretty hazy to
drive through, especially if your in the rear of the pack. :)
I personally hate races without pace lap, so I try to stay away from
them.

Remember that this is a simulation.

The only time you see smoke from another car is if they get sideways and
slide.
The same is true for skid marks.

Hold your foot to the floor before the green falls.  You should be able to
keep up even with wheel spin (assuming you don't get sideways)

Yep.  Once I see the 5 second warning come up, the throttle is *buried*!
If the car is setup OK & you've qualified at or near the front, no T1
problems either.
