GPLex 1.2 released

GPLex 1.2 released

Bla bla bla.

It's going a bit too fast probably, but a new GPLex is there.

http://www.racesimcentral.net/

Nice picture of Zandvoort's track in Racer:
http://www.racesimcentral.net/

New features:
- Probably VRL2VRML compatible (although BIG .wrl files seemed to keep
VRL2VRML running forever).
- New export option: Export by Section. This creates separate
(localized) objects, just as is used in GPL. This should speed up
rendering performance in Racer/SCGT/F12k*. (for example: Zandvoort has
107 sections, separated into textures that gives ~700 objects in
total).
- Cute progress bar while exporting (including Cancel option)

Known bugs:
- Can't get the sand from Zandvoort to show up in Racer. But this
things is going faster than my testing can keep up with. The .wrl
seems alright. Perhaps the bug from the 'missing DOFs for big tracks'.

Enjoy!

Way cool!

It seems your sim is about to grow, track-wise :-)

I'd like to second that, great work, Ruud. How hard is it to
"convert" a gpl track to racer? Is this much manual work that a
dummie like me could do or is it hard and requires windows? ;-)

I'd suggest everyone converts their favourite gpl track to
racer and posts a note in the forum at high gear so we don't
duplicate each others efforts.

Regards,

Uwe

Uwe, i havent imported my track yet into TrackEd, but will do so soon, just
gonna eat
first to get some energy to import the track.

Anyway, i used "DooDat" to get the 3do's out from .dat file.
Then i just imported the "kyalami.3do" into gplex, and saved as
multiple section, or what it was called.

Then i used anthony hirst vrml<->vrl converter to convert them to vrl.
Then i imported the files into Zmodeler using the vrl-import set to
SCGT-files.

Cant wait to have it inside.. then im gonna take my Porsche 962 i did for
Racer, and race around, and pretend im Derek Bell ;D ;D (ok he used a 956)
:)

There may still be some issues (like why the sand is missing when I
import in TrackEd), but those may be more Racer/TrackEd related than
anything else (like GPLex).

It's not that hard, but some experience in 3DO extracting is handy.
Also, to get the track into Racer, much of the 'Importing SCGT tracks
to Racer' tutorial is very useful (creating a track.ini,
batch-converting WRL files etc).

And currently, all the external 3do's (grandstands, pitbuildings etc)
are not extracted (since they are separate 3do's, perhaps importable
by Racer's Modeler, albeit a bit unoptimized).

But it sure is a lot easier now to get things started.

Oh, the missing sand seems to be a restriction of my sphere culler.
Can only handle 500 objects. Will be fixed for the next (Racer) beta.

Nothing alarming for GPLex itself.
