why not:
'49: Alfa Romeo, Ferrari, ERA, Maserati, Cisitalia with Nuvolari, if
you like & many other cars
'55: the coming of Mercedes, Fangio
'65: the last 1500s

And good riddance to them! I believe everybody was happy to have 3 litre
cars at the time, with a surfeit of power of grip once again.
I'd like to see:
'37-'38: The Silver Arrows or
'74-'76: The last years of the "real" tracks

Small point ... but 82 was infact the last year of the "wing cars". They
went to flat bottom in 1983.
74 or 76 would make probably the best year for GPL2 IMO, with cars that
still moved around a lot and of course the nordshleife!
82 or 81 were also very interesting years with the mix of cosworth and turbo
cars.
My father races in the Thoroughbred GP championship for pre 84 non turbo F1
cars. (he has an 82 Arrows A4 and an 83 March-RAM) So I frequently get to
see cars from these eras racing hard. The are certainly awesome to watch ...
huge opposite lock slides, very fast and noisy :) Best of all they produce
some incredible racing as they did in their day. From what my father tells
me the cars are the most entertaining to drive of anything he has driven
(including some more modern F1 cars).
Papyrus would do very well to set a GPL sequel in any of these seasons since
the cars are still fun to drive and slide around. Probably more importantly
it would undoubtedly be a bigger hit than the original GPL since the cars
are instantly recognisable as F1 cars and of course so many of the target
audience would have been alive to watch these cars and their heroes when
they raced originally.
I only hope and pray that papyrus were not put off by GPLs poor sales
figures and do intend to make a sequel. There are so many sim racers out
here who love GPL with a passion and are no longer prepared to even touch
any inferior game. Perhaps a GPL2 based in the early 80s may be exactly what
is needed since a picture of Gilles Villeneuve opposite locking his Ferrari
would certainly stir many 10s of thousand into dipping into their pockets to
buy it.
praying for a sequel

76 for me, cos the Ferrari was a pretty good car then :), i.e if Lauda
hadn't crashed at the Ring, he probs would have won the WC, no disrepect to
James Hunt. (Guess what I drive in GPL)
Hmm. 82 I reckon.
Wooooooowwwww !!!! :).
I've watched the TGPs at Brands for the last two years now. They are damn
cool.
I don't think it was the era that did, it was lack of patience from the
general *** (arcade) public.
