Joystick Odysey

by Steve » Sun, 03 Sep 1995 04:00:00

My Joystick Odysey began 8 years ago when I purchased a Kraft 2
button joystick for *** on a 8088/CGA.  A very sound and usefull
joystick.  When I got a faster computer, and hence faster games :-), I
decide to upgrade to a pistol grip type joystick.  I started with a
Night Force by Suncom Technologies.  It was an "ok" joystick.  It
worked but definately left me wanting more.  So I then tried a Wingman
Extreme by Logitech.  Very heavy and solid base, never did I have a
problem with the base lifting off the table during ***
manuevering.  Unfortunately the precision of the controls left alot to
be desired.  So much so that I actually tried replacing the
Potentiometers myself.  This worked for the X axis but destroyed the Y
axis completely :-).  That's what I get fer tamperin',  an ok joystick
became un-usable.  So I went in quest of a new Joystick.  My most
recent addition to Steves Joystick Museum :-) is a Flight Control
System Mark II by Thrustmaster.  The precision of control is superb.
I can actually stay in one lane, of MY choice, on Nascar Racing now,
and am even starting to learn to draft :-).  The Buttons are easy to
use and the stick is easy to manuever in both fine controls and
*** ones.  The only things I don't like about it is it's weight,
it is very light and the base will lift off of the table quite easily
if not carefull, the other thing is the lack of trim tabs, even though
so far I haven't needed to trim it for anything, it allways stays
zeroed.
The m***of this story is: "By a Mark II FCS by Thrustmaster"

Night Force             $30.00  Approx.
Wingman Extreme   $60.00 Approx.
Mark II FCS             $70.00 Approx.

$90.00 and two years wasted.  Don't wait.  Buy it today.  You know you
want to :-) :-)
