Improving Sports Car GT framerates...

by Martin Haeke » Tue, 09 Jul 2002 10:58:54

Is anyone out there still playing Sports Car GT? I have an AMD 450 with a
16MB Voodoo Banshee card and would like to know if anyone has any 'tricks'
to improve framerates (other than buying a new system or turning graphics
below 600x800!)?

I downloaded and installed a trans-am series some time ago and am really
enjoying the game mod but notice that this especially hits my framerates
hard. I know it's not in the option menu, but is there another way to turn
off rain effects and such as these are particularly *** my slower
system.

Thanks in advance.

get the small mirror patch that used to be available at the uspits.com.
Turn the track detail down,  you'll probably notice that around the pits is
the worst framerate area.  Lower the # of cars...
there isn't alot you can do to SCGT to really buff up the fps until you get
a beefy system.  Good luck.

I don't think you can.

I have an AthlonXP and GF4 card, and I didn't really see any improvement.  I
think SCGT is frame-rate limited, much like GPL is.

SCGT seems to have real problems with Force Feedback, especially if you have
a Microsoft FF device. Try turning FF off and see if that helps. I played it
on a PII 333 with SLI'd Voodoo2's, and it was quite playable at 800x600 if I
turned FF off (1024x768 on some tracks). With FF on it was a slide show.

Looks like I'll have to put up with slow framerates. The graphic settings
have already been turned down and I haven't been using force feedback. I've
done all the typical stuff like updating graphic card drivers, closing
background apps, upgrading to 256 MB ram, max game install on a 7200 rpm
hard drive, etc.

Thanks for all of your responses...I was just hoping (dreaming) someone knew
a game tweak, such as modifying an init file or something that might help.

PIII933 and Radeon 7500 here... SCGT does not deliver the framerates that it
should (even with all the tweaks and FF off), other sims do.  I suspect
you're right about the limit.

Dale.
