tweaking foot pedals

I love my wheel (ACT Labs Force RS) but I dont like the pedals that much.  In
fact, every set of game pedals I have used so far seem really sub-standard
compared to actual brake and accelerator pedals.

For one thing, they are too small, and too close together.  The axis of
rotation is wrong.  There is no increasing resistance as you press the brake.
All these are a limitation of design, I know.

One thing that might be improved, though, is the "feel" of the pedals.  Mine
feel kind of "crunchy"... the motion is not smooth, and tends to stick and
bind a bit.  I was wondering if some combination of smoothing, polishing, or
lubricating the mechanical action, and perhaps a stiffer return spring might
be the solution.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks,
Gerald Moore

Just *My Opinion*!  ALL store bought systems are made specifically for
the "gamer" and not the Sim racer/driver.  I haven't seen any of the
expensive systems other then through pictures on web pages so I wont comment
on those yet.  I have a***pit I built a couple years ago and am in the
process of designing a completely new concept in***pits.  I'd suggest that
if you're after something a bit more natural feeling such as your family
car, I'd suggest doing the same thing...Build a system of your own.

be nice to be able to sell my drawings ;-)

Mike...

Good to hear you are making the effort to simulate real-life racing
controls.  I'm doing the same at the moment, using a Wildwood clutch and
brake sysem (you can buy this in any circle track race shop) along with a
side mount throttle peddle, for N4  All are overhead mounts, and are the
same parts used in many Cup cars.  I've built several***pits or simulators
(or been involved with their design and construction)....and my experience
has always been good in creating something more realistic than can be
purchased off-the-shelf.  But, we are lucky, most sim racers I think do not
have the skills, tools or facilities to do this.  And, like the flight sim
community.....there's all kinds of "rigs" out there.  I work closely with
Ball Racing Ltd, England, who does all the show car conversions for Ford in
Europe (converts them to simulators)....and several F1 teams.  I also have a
couple "race car builders" here in the Petaluma area who trade me seat time
in my simulator....for "shop time" in their welding shops.  If you have any
questions or get stuck on something, give me a holler.  Perhaps I can help
out.

There are 3 different mods for the RS pedals at www.slottweak.com . All work
very well.
