HELP!! Hardware question

by jim cotte » Sun, 06 May 2001 01:01:53

I recently upgraded my computer system to a Compaq from a Packard Bell,
and now I have much more speed.  I have the Nascar Racing game, as well as
the Dirt Track Racing game, but since I have this new computer, I can't
use my wheel.  The hookup for the racing wheel is a game port, but the
plug in back is USB.  Is there a connector made to integrate this?  Or,
does anyone have a better solution.  Please reply to me via email, because
I don't get to the list that often.  Thank you in advance for any help you
are able to give me.

HELP!! Hardware question

Most computers will still have a "game port" as a part of the sound card
system, even when it is integrated into the M'board. I think they do this to
assure support for legacy MIDI devices. If your computer does not have one,
you may be able to find a game port to USB adapter, but you would probably
be better served to 1) Upgrade your system sound to a stand alone sound card
with a port on it, this will require that you know how to disable the
onbaord sound if your comp sys is so equipped, or 2) Buy a dedicated game
port card, which are available in several flavors, most any would work I
would think.

Hope this helps you out,

HB
