Several times when running Nascar3 about 60-70 laps into a 200 lap race,
my computer goes back to desktop. I'm not on-line racing. This usally
happens when I'm  in a group of cars and have been running hard to hold
position. I have the following components;
Celeron 850, Intel motherboard with 813 series chipset, 351 mg ram, Hercules
4500 64 MG video card, Logitech Formula Force GP wheel and pedals with force
feed at default settings, and all the latest drivers and patches. I'm
getting max framerates(30-31) which is all that version is written for and
am running Windows 98. Windows 98 has put the video card, the ethernet card,
the sound card and the modem all on IRQ 11 and won't let me change any of
them. I don't know if this has anything to do with it or not. Has anyone
experianced this or has any suggestions as to why it's acting that way? The
processor, motherbard and video card are almost new and the wheel is less
than 6 months old.

Are any components overclocked? CPU, video card, etc. Sounds like a
random heat issue causing an occasional crash.

no. it's all stock. If it is heat, what's likely to be overheating that
would cause this?

If it is heat, then most likely it will be your CPU or video card.
Either could cause a crash. Make sure the cooling is up to scratch on
both, you may want to try running without the cover on your pc for a
while. Your mobo should have a monitoring program to display the CPU
temp, check that.

To at least rule out overheating, try using a desk fan to blow into
the case with the lid off. You can't get much better cooling than
that!

You do have quite a few devices on irq 11, however this wouldn't
really cause intermittent crashes. If you want to change them, the
best way is to move devices to different PCI slots. Try a few
combinations to see what Windows comes up with.
