 <snip Y2K FAQ>

Thanks for posting the Y2K FAQ, Matthew.  It is a noble service since
most people remain clueless on the issue. Some will have you believe
that Y2K is a bunch of hype conjured up by programmers to increase their
monthly salaries, and therefore an outright lie.  Yet others believe Y2K
hysteria is the result of a runaway vicious cycle of fear feeding on
fear among internet dummies.  Then there is the harsh reality: the globe
is estimating the costs of Y2K repair at 1 TRILLION dollars, up 700
MILLION since May of this year.

Best of luck and thanks again. I hope you are able to put away enough
supplies to sustain self-sufficiently for at least 2 years.  If not,
then e-mail me privately and I will point you in the right direction.

Funny thing is my computer wont be affected. I once screwed it up and it
thought the date was 2098 as opposed to 1998.  Everything worked ok except for
IBM anit-virus.  But thats realitively small compared to what the SAY will
happen.  I dont know what to belive but if as long as GPL works....what else do
i need!!!!

Those are not your sentiments, if I may remind you of your own countless
rantings of the past two months on this NG.

Notice I quoted part of the last sentence of his post? _That_ is the
_part_ I agree with.  The rest of his post indicated that he is a
neophyte to the coming post-information age.  I don't flame him or blame
him for not having done the hundreds of hours of research needed to
conceptualize the full, global picture that we are merely a part of.

And to my adversaries who have attacked my position with vigor: I will
have out-lived my usefulness in 5 days. On January 1, 1999, you won't
need the "crazy moron" in r.a.s. telling you that you'll be cooking
acorn stew in your front yard just to survive.

Only the intentionally ignorant won't see the parallel between the
moronic timing and laughable readiness of international banking
institutions to 'switch' to the Euro dollar, and Y2K.  Both have
immovable, legislated deadlines that will be missed.

The precarious release of the Euro will serve as _the_ bozo story of the
19th century, Y2K of the 20th.

Thousands of hours of IT metrics: gotta love 'em, gotta respect 'em.

Rick

Oh, did I mention the "look ahead" Y2K failures of un-remediated systems
that we will see beginning if just five days?  Well, that's another
story, LOL.
