Bri, I have the identical system to what you're considering, same
mobo/processor/vid card and I went with Crucial pc3200 DDR400, had no issues
with it to date, the system is overclocked to run at 3.09 Ghz, (very easy
with the ASUS mobo and bios) has been for about 6 weeks now, stable, and
strong for running 3D games. Like you, I tend to buy just behind the tech
curve.
Aside from those parts listed, I chose an Antec case w/350W power supply, it
was all put together with the parts supplied.

Roar. Kingston RAM forever. :)
J.R.
It presently runs at 426Mhz...and it is 100% stable no probs at all.
The extra for Corsair and the like i just cant see that it's worth it.

I run that very same combo in my *** rig and I'm very happy with it,
I use Corsair XMS3500 memory because I like to play around with OC'ing
and it's currently running at 3.5 Ghz with almost stock cooling :-D
If you're not going to OC, there's no need to buy Ram faster than 3200,
which can save you a few dollars, but what I never do is buy cheap "no
name" memory, there's plenty of affordable memory out there from
recognized manufacturers such as TwinMOS, Crucial, Corsair,
Apacer.....etc, brands like these usually come with either 5 year's
warranty or "lifetime" warranty, as opposed to the 90 day warranty on
some no name brand, not that it matters in 5 years time as you won't be
running the same memory then, but it shows they have confidence in their
product and are willing to stand by it

It's not worth it to everyone. If you are not in to overclocking, it's not
worth it really. Crucial is just fine.
I'm not in to Overclocking, but I spend the extra for it anyway. It's dandy
stuff.

Whatever you do, AVOID no-name, generic RAM. It is false economy, and the
stuff is a nightmare as far as soft-errors are concerned.
