When they talk about leaning the car out to save fuel in CART racing, is

that the same as turning the turbo boost knob down on ICR2?

I am not positive, but I think this is a completely different method of
adjusting the car than the boost control.  However, this is as close as
we have to this type of adjustment.

They do have both a fuel mixture dial and a turbo boost dial. The fuel
mixture dial permits more fuel into the turbo charger, while the boost
pressure deals with the amount of air aloowed into the turbo charger. Full
lean means allowing the miimum amount of fuel into the turbocharger. This
gets great gas mileage, but also puts a great deal of stress on the motor.
Full rich does the opposite, and gets quicker acceleration and top speed.

Generally, they play with the fuel mixture rather than the turbo pressure.

No, they are two separate items.

Boost is related to the turbocharger which is connected to the exhaust
system.  Leaning the car is referring to fuel mixture.  Kinda like when you
played around with the lawn mower carburetor as a kid.  Remember that
second***you turned, not the idle adjust, that made your mower rev
really loud.  That was the fuel mixture screw.

No.  The real CART guys adjust the fuel mixture and not the turbocharger.
In real life, when they adjust the fuel mixture, they still get 40 in. (45
before the '97 season) of boost in the turbocharger.

I'm sorry, everybody seems to misunderstand what I was asking.  I know
all about the turbo charger, and how that is different from the fuel
mixture.  What I _was_ asking is, in ICR2, would reducing the turbo
charger setting kinda simulate what the real life guys do when they lean
out the motor to save gas?

YES. exactly. Bingo.

The real life guys don't lose as much power by adjusting the fuel-mixture
as we do in ICR2 by adjusting the turbo boost.  They still can run VERY
fast with the fuel mixture 2 or 3 clicks down.
