N99 No acceleration leaving pit area?

It seems that when I try to leave the pit lane after I cross the line, I'm not
able to accelerate right away. On the contrary, the more gas I give it the
slower I go and a few seconds later it will pick up.

any ideas?

Sounds to me like you may have "auto-brake" turned on.  While in the race
(or practice), hit <ALT>B to cycle auto-brake on and off.
