OT - European motorsport must sees?

Theres a chance I may be moving (from Australia) to the UK to live/work for
12-24 months from this
December 2001 onwards, and being an avid motorsport fan there are a number
of events which I dont want to miss when I'm there! For example my short
list so far would be:

Rally of Monte Carlo (or Corsica or San Remo ie a tarmac round)
Rally of Finland
F1 GP Silverstone
F1 GP Monza
Le Mans 24hr
Goodwood Festival of Speed

Who knows what my schedule will be but I sure would like to see as much as I
can whilst there, as I probably wont get the chance again. Are there any
must see's which anyone recommends I should include on the list and not
miss?

I can certainly recommend the Monaco GP as an experience . The racing is
obviously processional but the experience of being there is not one you'll
forget easily . I did it back in '95 using Page & Moy who cover all the GPs
and also Le Mans .

I wouldn't bother with the Rally GB, or the rally of Cardiff as it should
properly be called.  There are much better rallies in the rest of europe
than that waste of time.

Great choices, but while you're almost there anyway - why not thow in the
RAC rally aswell?

Advice; drop both those events and go watch F1 at Spa - which is a good
track to watch at. Silversont is a bore [track that is] -  and Monza will
only do if you cheer for a certain Herrrrrrr in a red car.

I would also suggest you only attend 1 F1 race - they're a big rip-off and
will cost you plenty of cash! $400 AUS for the raceday alone I reckon. And
then you might want a grandstand seat aswell - whilch cost aswell.   Bernie
didnt get his millions -  ops! sorry - I mean *billions*, just out of the
blue sky!!

I suggest a CART event instead.  Both Rockingham and Lautizrng look real
good. The fact that they're both oval mean you get to see something new
aswell :-)

A must! - But be there for the entire weekend (meaning Thursday to Sunday
and stay at the campsites!)

Good choice!!  But having seen both evets - I'd opt for the Goodwood Revival
meeting instead (thats what I'm doing this year..) - it's such a fantastic
event with a setting you wont find anywhere on earth!

If i were to add something to the list:

ALMS/ELMS race somewhere - Donington would be great of they ever go there.

Also: attend as many club races as you can - as there's bags of great racing
and race-cars to be seen!  (If I were living in the UK - I would spend many
weekends at home: i'd be around watching all the great club events!)

Well,  there's my advices... all thats left to do now is say 'have a nice
trip' :-)

Rally of Monte Carlo (or Corsica or San Remo ie a tarmac round)

I would substitute F1 GP Spa for Silverstone. Much more spectacular views,
because Spa is hilly, whereas Silverstone is built on an airfield and is
very flat.

F1 GP Monaco.. you gotta do that one!!

Because there's no such thing.  That's a fairly good reason.

The Current Rally of Tescos in Cardiff is NOTHING like the good old RAC
which would actually take place over more variety of stages than five square
miles of south wales.  No killer kielder, no dalby forest etc etc.

No one's mentioned the Silverstone Historic Festival, a must for GPL (and
SOS'37 ;-) fans and anyone who's interested in racing history. MUCH cheaper
than the GP ($28, or 55 for all three days) and you can wander round the
paddock. If I'd had the "bottle" I could have asked for a sit in an Eagle
last year...

The Isle of Man TT (Bike ) races just have to be seen to be believed.
The only problem is it is likely to clash with the Le Mans 24hr.
It is a race on a particularily attractvie island and if you have a
bike you can enjoy the track on Mad Sunday when the roads are made one
way with no speed limits (Ouside town).

Forget all of those. Expensive, a waste of money, and the racing will be
non-existant.

Go to every British F3 round, at all the circuits.

Go to a Caterham Race at Brands Hatch indy.

BTCC at somewhere interesting like Donington or Brands.

Avoid Silverstone, it's a dump, and the spectating is dire.

Don't waste your money on going to GP's. The spectating is crowded, and with
only 2 or 3 races on race day, they're mainly boring waiting.
