It will be released at the end of April and all that
is left to do is minor bug testing and final document-

Yeah right! Id like to see this post next month again. From what Ive
heard they are still optimizing the game-engine and trying to make it run
faster.

Face it theyre just waiting that Pentiums get more common. Ill be very
surprised if you can get even a decent frame rate on a 486. Having said
that I still hope that Im wrong because Im just another owner of lousy
DX2...for a while atleast.

One of the things I *do* like about ICR2 is that even though you need
a monster machine to run it SVGA  with everything "on", you can still
run it just fine on a 486 in SVGA with only wall texture, tire marks,
and perhaps road texture- all you really need if you are interested in
racing.

And I consider the quality of the racing in ICR2 to be amazing. I
expect F1GP2 will be visually a lot snazzier, more vivid and more
complex texturally, but for me it will all still come down to how well
it races. I don't think the AI is what takes all the computer power;
I figure that is relatively minor as compared to getting the graphics
drawn.

So, in short, if F1GP2 is going to be any good to me, it will be
raceable in SVGA on a 486, even if that means being able to turn all
extra-object rendering off. We'll just have to see.

Some things get faster- Descent2 seems faster than Descent- I guess
they've found more drawing shortcuts since the first version. I think
Descent2 takes the cake for the fastest rendering of any game around.
I wonder what we'd have if those programmers were brought in, knowing
what they know,  to optimize the drawing code for our racing games!

No it isn't. He emailed me and said, for a start, that the***pit
wasn't there in SVGA mode at that time.

No it's not. The best I can work out is that the performance is
similar to a snail on Mogadon. Even the very latest beta (two weeks
ago) is pushing it on a 486/66 in VGA with no details. Here's a quote
from a tester, who was discussing the latest set of lies from Edge
magazine:

 >> "For those with a lower end PC it is possible to alter the scenery
 using
 >> the extremely effective in-game detail settings. This enables even
a
 >> 486/66 to run the game quite adequately"

Laughable, believe me, and I've tested the beta on a 486DX2/66, a
83MHZ P-Overdrive and a P133.

As it stands, the game runs -- just -- on a 486DX2/66 with 32Mb with
NO texture-mapping and NO background detail. (Although for some
reason, there is no way to fully turn off the textures on the cars in
the current beta).

And about the weather Edge mentioned.

 >> and especially mentions "These [weather conditions] are randomised
for
 >> each track, the rain effect looking particularly pleasant
incidentally"

For a part of the game which is "particularly pleasant", it's
surprising they didn't run any screen shots of the weather isn't it,
especially as they had three pages to work with.

The truth is, the current beta has NO weather effects.

These quotes are taken from Compuserve, GO SPORTSIMS, message ID:

Sb: #461392-GP2 stuff (again!!)

Not from me, so don't perster me for a pirate version, more info, etc.

Now, yes.

Well now , have I put too much faith in a games reveiw
(fatal mistake??).

I came to the conclusion after reading the review of
F1GP2
and reading a FAQ on the web from James Flynn
explaining why he thought it was correct in reviewing
it that maybe for once I could believe a games mag.

Indeed I stand corrected about the fact SVGA had not
been properly implimented in the copy he had.

As far as the realease date is concerned I`ve been
repeatedly told by Microprose and suppliers that it
will definately be in the shops at the end of April.

Considering before this no one would give any official
release for it, I thought it all added up to a real
result for F1GP2" fans at last.(fatal mistake No2??).

So maybe I will have to post my original comments on
the subject again next month , but it will be a
different games mag and Journo then I suppose?!?!

Hurry up F1GP2" pleeeeese!
