wasn't there in SVGA mode at that time.

No it's not. The best I can work out is that the performance is
similar to a snail on Mogadon. Even the very latest beta (two weeks
ago) is pushing it on a 486/66 in VGA with no details. Here's a quote
from a tester, who was discussing the latest set of lies from Edge
magazine:
>> "For those with a lower end PC it is possible to alter the scenery
using
>> the extremely effective in-game detail settings. This enables even
a
>> 486/66 to run the game quite adequately"
Laughable, believe me, and I've tested the beta on a 486DX2/66, a
83MHZ P-Overdrive and a P133.
As it stands, the game runs -- just -- on a 486DX2/66 with 32Mb with
NO texture-mapping and NO background detail. (Although for some
reason, there is no way to fully turn off the textures on the cars in
the current beta).
And about the weather Edge mentioned.
>> and especially mentions "These [weather conditions] are randomised
for
>> each track, the rain effect looking particularly pleasant
incidentally"
For a part of the game which is "particularly pleasant", it's
surprising they didn't run any screen shots of the weather isn't it,
especially as they had three pages to work with.
The truth is, the current beta has NO weather effects.
