::Anyone have speed problems with NFS3?

by LWS » Wed, 07 Oct 1998 04:00:00

I am a owner of the new NFS3 hot persuit game. I have a 266 pent II, 64Meg ram,
and a 4Meg video card that is made for graphic-intensive games like NFS3.
However, I notice that NFS3 runs extremely slow. I notice flickering when I
race it with 640*480. However, I also own NFS2SE and don't have a single
problem with speed; it plays perfectly smooth at the same resolution.

Now my question.....

I was wondering if anyone has slowness in game speed. If NFS3 seems to run fast
for you, please let me know as well. I just want to know if I should expect
this game to have speed problems playing it. Thanks for your time and response.

4 meg cards just aren't cutting it anymore with graphical games. I have an
8meg nVidia and a 12 meg VooDoo2. May be time for you to upgrade...the game
flies here.

What sort of "4Meg video card..." do you have?

I run PII-300 with 128mb RAM and SLI and it is super-smooth

Flies for me too with PII 400MHz and 12Mb Voodoo2.
This is THE game for LAN racing with the boys and a few beers.

People have suggested that 4MB isnt enough video ram to run the game
smooth.  That's not true.  I have a P2-300 with 4mb card, and this game
runs flawlessly for me (read, silky smooth).  Just make sure the card
supports D3D and you are running in a D3D mode, not software mode.  I
made that mistake at first, and it did run very slow.  I switched the
game to run in D3D mode (which my card supports, and hopefully yours
does to), and now i can run at 640x480 or even 800x600 very smooth.  If
your card doesnt support D3D, then your probably only going to get it to
run fast at the lowest resolution possible.

Good luck,
Don Marsh

hmmmmm Well, i think you guys dont realy know what is to be realy smooth, I
have a P-2 504 Mhz whit Voodoo2 12 mb, and NFS3, isnt perfect at all, you
can see a LOT of slowdows (about 10 fps ) if you check the replays in dark
and rain, but other replays also run quite slow, sam thing in the game,
voodoo2 just dont have enough texture memory !!!!

Check Quake2 or racing games like Ultimate Race pro and u will see real
smooth graphics( about 60-80 fps ), anything less then 50 is visibly jerky !

NFS3 is looking good, but some effects are messed up, cars are flying, ect,
and it handless like SHIT ! Check Viper racing arcade mode or NFS1, thast
how a good arcade races shoud handle like !

My rate on NFS3 is 4 out of 10
Viper demo is 8 out of 10
and gpl is 9.8 :)

Oh btw, same config runs GPL at constant 36 fps, ecept first 5-6 secunds at
the starts !

Bye
Tilus
sorry for my bad english

<Cue Maniacal Laughter>  Heh-heh-heh....Bwaa-haa-haaw!  Couldn't help it
because NFS3 absolutely /rips/ along on my Pentium Classic 200/Voodoo1 rig.
Sorry ppl, but with my set-up, you've gotta laugh!

Rik.

So I guess GPL at a mear 36fps max is just jerky all the time then??
